Dr Who repeats ratings slump, new episodes later this year.

What the BBC has confirmed is the first five episodes of series seven will be broad- cast in 2012, followed by the Christmas special. This will introduce a new companion, to be played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. The remaining eight episodes will be seen in 2013, the 50th anniversary year of the show.

Despite suggesting they would play no new episodes this year, the ABC now say Doctor Who series seven will premiere in Australia in September 2012. SFSA magazine # 30

BBC Worldwide have revealed some more details of the new output deal with the ABC. Genres covered include documentaries, drama, comedy, factual, entertainment, religion, arts and lifestyle, and not included are natural history, children's, news and current affairs. If ABC were to refuse Doctor Who, UKTV has the second option or window on the show. Both the BBC and ABC declined to comment any further, citing commercial confidentiality.
