Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association Working against cancer on the Isle of Man since 1959 Isle of Man ANTI-CANCER ASSOCIATION Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association has been raising money to work against cancer since it began in 1959. The big 'C' on our logo stands for CURE for cancer, and we continue to work with a variety of organisations both on and off the Isle of Man to strive towards this: Work on the Isle of Man: IOM Anti-Cancer Association is involved in a variety of projects on the Island, either focused on raising awareness of cancer, or supporting those affected by cancer. These projects include: Staywell Clinic (Cervical Screening) – providing women with the opportunity to have a cervical screening test outside of normal working hours and in a female-staffed clinic. This service is fully funded and managed by IOM Anti- Cancer Association. Monthly Cancer Awareness Feature on Manx Radio – on the 1st Thursday of the month just after 10.30pm, covering a range of cancer awareness topics. Cancer Awareness within the community – bringing cancer awareness information to a local level. Psycho-Oncology Service – part funding cancer-related psychology & counselling services in conjunction with Manx Cancer Help and Department of Health & Social Care. Funding other projects that support people affected by cancer on the Island – e.g. funding information leaflets, survey of cancer patients, equipment for LookAhead chemotherapy hair loss support. Working against cancer on the Isle of Man since 1959 Isle of Man ANTI-CANCER ASSOCIATION Working against cancer further afield: IOM Anti-Cancer Association is committed to funding research into cancer, its causes and its treatment. Some of the recipients are as follows: The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Alder Hey Hospital The Christie Hospital Institute of Cancer Research Cancer Research UK The Royal Liverpool Hospital Breast Cancer Now Orchid (fighting male cancers) Ovarian Cancer Action University of Liverpool Working against cancer on the Isle of Man since 1959 Thank you for your support: Thanks to the fantastic fundraising effort from people in the Isle of Man, IOM Anti-Cancer Association can continue our work against cancer – funding research, raising awareness, and supporting people affected by cancer. Election for Marown Parish Commissioners Barrantee Skeerey Marooney 24 April 2008 – Marown Methodist Church Hall, Crosby Dear fellow Marown resident My name is PAUL CRAINE. I have been privileged to represent you on Marown Commissioners for the past year. I was “elected unopposed” in March 2007. It didn’t feel at all like democracy in action so I am pleased that the people of Marown will have a chance to vote on 24th April and I invite you to vote for me. I am 52 years old and was born and grew up in the Isle of Man. I first lived in Marown when my parents moved here in the 1970s. I am married to Ann, we have two daughters and we have lived in Ballagarey for almost 8 years. I work in the Department of Education as the education adviser to the Island’s five secondary schools, a post I took up in 1999 after a successful 20-year career in teaching. In addition to being one of your Commissioners I have, until recently been Chairman of the Island Games Association of Mann. I am currently Secretary of the Island’s Christian Aid Committee as well as a member of the Methodist Synod. What have I done in 12 months as a Marown Commissioner? I have attended every monthly meeting of the Commissioners. I have also represented Marown Commissioners on the Western District Housing Committee and on the Municipal Association. In turn I have represented the Municipal Association on the Richmond Hill Consultative Committee which monitors the work of the Energy from Waste Plant.

  • The Future of All Saints' Church, Lonan
The Future of All Saints’ Church, Lonan This is a proposal to secure the future of the Church and Burial Ground, following the closure of the church to worship in 2014 1.The Church: All Saints’ Lonan was built in 1834 to replace a previous building on the same site. It served the parish for 180 years and was closed suddenly when the electrical supply and part of the nave floor were deemed to be unsafe. Both defects could have been rectified using the parish funds, but with dwindling support from an increasingly elderly congregation, the decision was made to make the building redundant, transferring to Christ Church, Laxey. In fact, the building is in a surprisingly sound state, as many people discovered when it was re- opened on 13th November 2016 for a Remembrance Service. 2. The Burial Ground: The burial ground is the only one that serves the Parish of Lonan and the Village of Laxey. In common with most of the cemeteries on the Island, it is administered by a Burial Authority consisting of the Vicar and Wardens who levy a precept on the annual commissioners’ rates. In return, any rate-paying household of any denomination or none in the Parish and Village has the right to opt for burial in All Saints’ graveyard. Three-quarters of the population of Garff are thus served by this facility. It remains in regular use and has capacity for at least another 50 years. Investigations are currently taking place into the possibility of the Commissioners becoming the Burial Authority in Lonan.
