EEVC Brussels, Belgium, November 19-22, 2012 The Swedish car movement data project Lars-Henrik Kullingsjö 1, Sten Karlsson 2 Energy and Environment, Chalmers University of Technology Gothenburg, SE-41296, Sweden [email protected], [email protected] Abstract To facilitate a well-informed and efficient transition to electrified vehicles, such as PHEVs, information about individual vehicle’s movements over longer time periods is needed. This is of major importance for optimal battery design, estimation of consumer viability and assessment of the potential for PHEVs to shift energy use in transport sector from fuel to electricity. Good and publicly available data of this kind is today unfortunately lacking. The aim of this project has been to gather a larger amount of data on the characteristics and distribution of individual movements for privately driven cars in Sweden by measurement with GPS equipment. The logging was performed with commercial equipment containing a GPS unit, including a roof-mounted antenna, and a gprs communication unit. Data logged were: time, position, velocity, and number and id of used satellites. The measurement started in June 2010 and ended in September 2012. The target is to accomplish good quality measurements of at least 30 days for about 500 representative vehicles. All data is not yet processed but in this paper initial statistics is offered to present important areas of use and possibilities for future work. Keywords: GPS measurement, car movement pattern, PHEV, Sweden Today however there is a lack of publicly available 1 Introduction good quality data on car movement patterns. Needed is improved data on the distribution of trip Possibilities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lengths and trip characteristics, such as speed and rising oil prices and concerns about energy orography, to be able to determine the possible security are important factors increasing the energy use for individual trips and thus possibility interest for various kinds of electric vehicles.

HEADING FOR A GREENER REGION FROM WORD TO DEED rom word to deed That's the necessary step for tack- ling environmental challenges. The Gothenburg region with its 13 municipalities has plenty of good examples of environmental initiatives. There is great diversity to the environmental efforts, encompassing buildings, travel, Fnature, consumption, energy and waste. The dedicated work being done is both inspiring and impressive. Despite all the posi- tive work going on, making this a greener region will be a long process, an important step to join forces in this process is the Green Gothenburg project. This is the umbrella for all the good examples in the region and also welcoming visitors to study our achievements. The Göteborg Region Association of Local Authorities (GR) is a regional planning department and an arena for the munici- palities that allows an overall approach to development. The 13 municipalities have, among other things, reached agreement on how to achieve our joint objective: sustainable growth. Busi- ness Region Göteborg (BRG) is dedicated to strengthening and developing trade and industry in the Gothenburg region. Our goal is to contribute to sustainable growth through cooperation between industry, society and academia. • A Transnational Project and Its Results
A transnational Project and its Results The European Agricultural Fund 1 EUROPEAN UNION for Rural Development: European Social Fund Europe investing in rural areas Introduction and description Background - Political and social context In 2015 more than a million migrants and refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries crossed into Europe. This caused a crisis, as countries struggled to cope with the influx, and created a division within the EU over how best to deal with integration. While Europe’s leaders were debating, arguing and looking for solutions, without being able to find a common understanding, the situation drove volunteers all over Europe into action. Volunteers and LEADER-areas from rural Europe came together in the European Rural Parliament in Austria, November 2015, and stated: “The arrival of desperate people from areas of conflict and disaster, seeking refuge and new lives in Europe, is provoking thought and action within our networks. While urging governments and other agencies to work urgently to solve the underlying causes of the crisis, we call for a warm-hearted response, based on solidarity between people. We believe, that for many rural areas, and particularly those with declining population, this offers an opportunity to integrate refugees and other newcomers. The process of integration must include the necessary job creation, investment in housing, services and infrastructure. Successful integration efforts should be celebrated.” Through the international LEADER-Network, similar project-ideas between partners from Austria, Finland, Germany and Sweden could be brought together. Sweden had established a partnership with the regional project Integration Halland who brought in expertise- knowledge on the topic of integrating refugees to the labour market.

  • Investigating Flood Risk Cost in Kungsbacka Using the ICPR Florian GIS-Tool
UNIVERSITY OF GOTHENBURG Department of Economy and Society, Human Geography & Department of Earth Sciences Geovetarcentrum/Earth Science Centre Investigating flood risk cost in Kungsbacka using the ICPR FloRiAn GIS-tool Erika Lindqvist Degree of Master of Science (120 credits) With a major in Geography 30 hec 2019 B1053 Abstract Losses from floods have increased in recent years, worldwide and in Sweden. Understanding the economic and non-monetary cost of being exposed to flood hazard is important from a spatial planning perspective, particularly in urban areas. In order to estimate damage and risk cost of flooding in Kungsbacka – one of the most flood-prone cities in Sweden – the ArcGIS toolbox “ICPR FloRiAn” was used. This model uses data on flood depth, flood probability and vulnerable assets to determine the cost of hazard exposure on the four focal areas or receptors stated in the EU Flood Directive (2007/60/EC): Economic activities, Cultural heritage, Human health and the Environment. The former is assessed in monetary terms, based on the value of land use categories, while the latter three are assessed non-monetarily. The ICPR FloRiAn tools were previously untested in a Swedish context and only sparingly used for local, city-scale assessments. Results showed that risk cost in Kungsbacka is considered low for the non-monetary receptors, although the damage (impact without considering probability of occurrence of floods) was rather high for Environment and Human health. The risk cost on Economic activities is 176 000 SEK/year for the 50-year flood and 226 000 SEK/year for the 100-year flood.
