President Lundberg plans to move blanket acceptance of all reports included in this book which covers society business from 2008 and 2009. The book includes the ballot information for the 2009 elections (Board of Govenors and Annual Business Meeting). Governors can ask to have items exempted from blanket approval. These exempted items will will be acted upon individually. We will also act individually on items exempted by the Executive Committee. Please remember to bring this booklet with you to the meeting. Gupta, Partha Sarathi Mohanty Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, Abstract Dayalbagh Educational Institute, In the present study, the cyprinid fishes (Labeo rohita, Catla catla, Cirrihinus mrigala) of Agra region were Agra (282005), India selected for resolving their phylogeny. Sequencing of fishes were done using mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene and it was compared with other cyprind fishes on the basis of similarity. 17 sequences of cyprinid fishes Varsha singhal were downloaded from NCBI along with one out group of family Balitoridae as a root of tree. It can be distinguished from other genera of Labeoninae by the following characters: middle part of rostral cap undeveloped, narrow, only covering the base of the upper jaw, both sides of rostral cap well developed and extending upward, rostral cap connected the lower lip with free lateral margin, the median part of lower lip protruded to form a round fleshy pad, whose posterior margin continuous with the mental region. Key words: Labeonini, oromandibular structures, Zhujiang River, taxonomy Introduction The Labeoninae (Chen et al. 1984) is a group of cyprinid fishes in China which inhabit tributaries or upstream of rivers with fast flowing water. The morphology of lips and associated structures in the Labeoninae is highly modified and variable. -

The present pressure on the wild ichthyofauna and its diversity is threatening aquaculture because potential genitors are often caught in the wild. One of the possible responses to this threat is to provide new natural fish taxa for aquaculture. The objective of this study was to analyse the genetic structure of populations of Opsariichthys bidens and to describe its subdivisions, if any, using nuclear markers, to serve as a guideline for stock selection and management in the potential aquaculture of this species. In 2002 and 2003, two collecting trips were made, one in the middle Chang Jiang basin in Hunan Province, and another in the Xi Jiang basin in Guangxi Province, China.
