th 8 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT (CTSEM 2021)

August 26 - 27, 2021 (Online mode)

Centre for Transportation Research Department of Civil Engineering National Calicut Kozhikode - 673601, Kerala, India 8th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT CTSEM 2021

Introduction Transportation systems play a vital role in the growth and development of economies. Reliable, cost effective and sustainable modes help in rapid movement of people and goods, not only within a country but also between countries. Considering the ubiquitous nature of the transportation system and the crucial role played by it in the lives of people, it is imperative that the problems associated with the transport systems are addressed in a time bound manner by the scientific community. It goes without saying that the problems associated with the transportation system get accentuated in urban areas. It is estimated that by the mid twenty-first century, 68% of the population will live in urban areas. Increase in purchasing power of the people have seen a rise in private vehicle ownership. The burgeoning population, rise in vehicle ownership, along with the demand for reliable and accessible transportation facilities for people and goods are posing a severe strain in the transportation systems. Moreover, unforeseen challenges in the form of the pandemic have posed serious challenges to the patronage of the public transport systems. Furthermore, safety, accessibility, mobility and parking challenge transportation engineers to suggest feasible and sustainable solutions for the problems. The need for the hour is therefore to provide sustainable solutions to transport related problems. The 8th Online International Conference on Transportation Systems Engineering and Management (CTSEM 2021) aims to bring together researchers, academicians and engineers in different areas of Transportation Engineering and Management. The objectives of the CTSEM are to provide an opportunity for students, research scholars, academicians, scientists and practising professionals to present their research works, exchange ideas, learn about advancements and applications in their respective fields and thus arrive at future directions for research. The 1st of the CTSEM series was organised by the Centre for Transportation Research, NIT Calicut in 2014. CTSEM 2021 is being organised by NIT Calicut, on the occasion of the diamond jubilee year of the Institute.

The objectives of the Centre are to undertake research in various aspects of transportation and develop solutions that lead to sustainable transportation, create a pool of quality conscious and qualified transportation engineers sensitive to societal requirements, enhance the skills and knowledge of working transportation professionals and bring awareness among public for their active and informed participation

Department of Civil Engineering The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the oldest Departments in this Institute. It was established at the inception stage of the Calicut Regional Engineering College (CREC), which was the forerunner to the present National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) in 1961. Presently the Department offers B.Tech. degree programme in Civil Engineering and five M.Tech. degree programmes - Structural Engineering, Traffic and Transportation Planning, Offshore Structures, Environmental Geotechnology and Water Resources Engineering. A number of Ph.D. scholars are pursuing research in various fields of Civil Engineering. The Department is a recognized QIP centre for both M.Tech. and Ph.D. programmes. The Department has been regularly conducting a number of short term training programmes and is actively engaged in consultancy and sponsored research works.

National Institute of Technology Calicut National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is one of the premier technical institutions in India. The Institute is celebrating its diamond jubilee year in 2021. NITC is set in a picturesque landscape at the foothills of the Western Ghats, located on the Kozhikode - Mukkam road about 22 km from Kozhikode city.
