It is estimated that by the mid twenty-first century, 68% of the population will live in urban areas. Increase in purchasing power of the people have seen a rise in private vehicle ownership. The burgeoning population, rise in vehicle ownership, along with the demand for reliable and accessible transportation facilities for people and goods are posing a severe strain in the transportation systems. Moreover, unforeseen challenges in the form of the pandemic have posed serious challenges to the patronage of the public transport systems. Furthermore, safety, accessibility, mobility and parking challenge transportation engineers to suggest feasible and sustainable solutions for the problems. The need for the hour is therefore to provide sustainable solutions to transport related problems.
