At the center of this are the conflicts you've been thinking about. For example, the plot can be defined as an action that will unfold no matter what the players do. These events will help players delve into history and take them to the heart of the story. An example of intrigue can be something like the murder of an important NSPCC, like a queen or a duke. Natural disasters are often used as a plot of conflict. They can also be associated with magical disturbances, such as the intervention of a dark wizard to create an even more interesting plot. Another issue that can help you is predicting the consequences of all players' actions, including the most unlikely. For example, if the player does not choose to complete the search, the kingdom can go after the hero by tracking him as a criminal [6]! 2 Draw the battlefield. This can range from a destroyed temple to an underground cave, anything is possible. Your drawing should not be a work of art, but using it as a reference will help coordinate the actions of players at the beginning of the fight Simple shapes and labels work perfectly when you make a battlefield. You can use squares to make boxes, green triangles for trees and, for example, rock circles, so you don't have to be an artist! Drawing on the battlefield can take some time. To make sure the game isn't interrupted along the way, you'll probably want to complete your card before you start the campaign! If some of your characters are struggling in different configurations, you'll probably need to build several battlefields for your campaign. In some cases, characters can have important actions to perform in a city or village. Drawing up a map for this kind of social struggle can help players visualize things better. In addition, most cities in D-D have at least one store, a mes house and a dormitory [7]. 3 Environmental development. In your environment, there may be objects, such as plants or animals, that can affect the action of the characters. For example, they can use a vineyard in the jungle to use a rope and climb the mountains. You do not need to develop an entire ecosystem, of course, but the characteristics of your own invention will Each one is different, but you may want to list all the details you think are needed. If there are violent or dangerous creatures active at night, such as wolves, bears, lions or similar creatures, it would be good for players to have night vision. Otherwise, the devastation can be terrible, for example with the loss of consumables that have been swallowed. You can establish your environment on a pre-existing ground, such as jungle, forest, desert or cave. You can also use a field that has already been developed in a game in which you have played. 4 Scattered traps, design dangerous terrain. Most of the places visited by players will be dangerous or in ruins. So you need to take this into account during your creative stage. For example, walking on a particular area can lead to the fall of downed soil that falls on pieces, or enemies can also set traps in front of unwanted visitors. Some examples of traps include traps, water tanks, arrow traps or falling rocks. Falling skirting boards, downed trees, poorly fixed rocks or slippery surfaces are examples of risky terrain [9]. 5 Set power levels. This is a number that establishes the difficulty with which heroes will be able to defeat their enemy. If the level of power is higher than the level of players, it becomes a terrible threat. For beginners, we prefer to play against monsters at a fairly low power level [10]. Information related to many monsters, beasts and other enemies can be found online. These superpowers provide details of power levels, basic statistics and some crunchy information about creatures in textual form. In some cases, you may find it difficult to establish statistics about a creature developed by you. In this situation, just give him the same characteristics as a pre- existing being in the game. 6 Set the enemy statistics. These include monsters, wild animals, enemy NPC, gods and much more according to your imagination. If you have enemies in your campaign, choose who they are, set your numbers correctly and set their power level. This will be crucial to determining the roll of the dice when these enemies face the players. Place enemies on the battlefield to get a complete picture of how the action unfolds once the battle begins. 7 Set the campaign starting point. You are Need a lot of charisma to be able to bring all the characters together in an original way from the beginning of the game. Sometimes the characters begin their adventure by simply meeting in a taverna or after a call from the NPC as king, ruler or duke. For example, a mysterious character can send a message to all players asking them to be outside the cave. This way you can connect a new aspect of the story to your story from the beginning! Role-playing tree This category includes the campaign sets for the Dungeons and Dragons role-playing games. Talking Up Our Products With the weekly influx of new roleplaying titles, it’s almost impossible to keep track of every product in every RPG line in the adventure games industry. To help you organize our titles and to aid customers in finding information about their favorite products, we’ve designed a set of point-of-purchase dividers. These hard-plastic cards are much like the category dividers often used in music stores, but they’re specially designed as a marketing tool for hobby stores. Each card features the name of one of our RPG lines printed prominently at the top, and goes on to give basic information on the mechanics and setting of the game, special features that distinguish it from other RPGs, and the most popular and useful supplements available. The dividers promote the sale of backlist items as well as new products, since they help customers identify the titles they need most and remind buyers to keep them in stock. Our dividers can be placed in many ways. These are just a few of the ideas we’ve come up with: •A divider can be placed inside the front cover or behind the newest release in a line if the book is displayed full-face on a tilted backboard or book prop. Since the cards 1 are 11 /2 inches tall, the line’s title will be visible within or in back of the book. When a customer picks the RPG up to page through it, the informational text is uncovered. The card also works as a restocking reminder when the book sells.

SOURCEBOOK GRR2011e LUCIEN SOULBAN · GREEN RONIN PUBLISHING SOURCEBOOK A refitted VTOL Carnival Air-freighter lumbers through the air like an overfed bumblebee, sluggish and heavy on the noise. You sit onboard, waiting to land. Not since the Atlanta Boys Convoy of 1934, when the government loaded 52 hardened criminals into a train and shipped them out to “inaugurate” Alcatraz Island, has secrecy and security been this heavy. For Super-Con Air, however, this is business as usual. The Carnival is the workhorse of convict transports; she can normally carry 23 passengers along with 22 tons of cargo, but following the refit, she’s hefting two additional power plants and space for 10 powered felons… eight awake and two asleep. Awake, you sit in reinforced cage called “The Egg,” because that’s what it looks like. The Egg suppresses active power fields and locks you down in sensory deprivation for the trip. It’s a blackout of your senses, designed to keep you off- balance when they finally transfer you out. Asleep, the Department of Justice deems you too powerful to risk handling. You’re probably a Type IV or V, and that makes folks nervous enough to crank you out in a hotsleep coffin. You won’t wake up until you’re imbedded 200 meters deep inside “the Mountain.” You feel like you’ve been in the dark for years before someone nudges your Egg. That’s just the VTOL setting down on the landing pad. A few minutes later, there’s motion again. They’ve disconnected your Egg from its suspension struts aboard the Carnival, and they’re wheeling you down the jet’s back ramp.

DANGEROUS GAMES? CENSORSHIP AND “CHILD PROTECTION” Anthony John Larme Submitted as partial requirement for the degree of B.A. Honours, The University of Queensland © 3 November 2000 ii DECLARATION I declare that this thesis is my own work and has not been submitted in any other form for another degree or diploma at any university or other institute of tertiary education. Information derived from the published or unpublished work of others has been acknowledged in the text and a list of references is given. I also declare that I am familiar with the rules of the Department and the University relating to the submission of this thesis. Signature: …………………………………. Date: ……………….. * * Extension Granted: The original Honours thesis due date, 26 October 2000, was extended by Honours Co-ordinator Dr. Leo Launitz-Schurer on 10 October 2000 in my case owing to fully documented medical grounds. My thesis due date was changed to 3 November 2000. Dr. Launitz- Schurer reconfirmed this extension on 23 October 2000. iii ABSTRACT Movements active in Australia and the United States of America over the past couple of decades have called for, and have caused, the censorship of fantasy role-playing games and computer games due to controversial content. They have used the excuse of “child protection” as a substitute for examining the far more pressing, but more complex, issues facing modern Western societies in an era of moral panic and crisis arising out of rapid social and economic change. Members of such movements are moral crusaders of fundamentalist and / or protectionist viewpoints. These patterns of behaviour have been common throughout history, particularly during the twentieth century in relation to entertainment media popular among youth.
