According to the oldest stories, these vampires descend from Caine, the Biblical first murderer. Passing on their curse when they choose to remake another, the Cainites have become a parasitic culture existing in the shadows of history. In the modern nights, they lurk unseen among the mortal herd, forming their own sects and societies. For centuries, the greatest of these—the Camarilla—has enforced the Masquerade, a grand tradition enforcing secrecy and discretion on the undead. Even the Sabbat, the other great sect, built on the precepts of vampiric supremacy, enforces its own version of the Masquerade, lest the mortal herd rise and destroy the parasites among it. But greater threats loom on the horizon for the undead. The same stories that tell of the Curse of Caine also speak of his return, and that of the Antediluvians, the ancient vampires he first spawned and who will rise to consume the young. The Book of Nod, most celebrated of all ancient vampiric texts, calls this terrible time Gehenna, and lays out signs that will presage its coming, signs that many say have come true. These are the Final Nights and, at long last, judgment is at hand. A Matter of Perspective… Each act of the Time of Judgment trilogy adopts the point of view of the supernatural creature whose story it tells. Astute readers will note nods and small references to the larger supernatural world, but most vampires, werewolves, and even mages find their attention drawn to their own problems in these terrible last days. Thus, the three acts of this trilogy are more akin to three facets of a larger happening than sequential sections of a single tale. Each builds upon the others, but tells its own story. prologue: twilight Quiet! Hear the raven’s cry! The stillness of the wind rising on the street the towers hide the darkness of the day. When Lasombra’s dreams come true on the day when the moon runs as blood and the sun rises black in the sky, that is the day of the Damned, when Caine’s children will rise again. And the world will turn cold and unclean things will boil up from the ground and great storms will roll, lightning will light fires, animals will fester and their bodies, twisted, will fall. —The Book of Nod, “The Chronicle of Secrets” Taurus Mountains South-southwest of Kayseri (and Mt. Erciyes), Turkey And on top of everything else, it was hot. It shouldn’t have been. This late at night, the temperature in the mountains and the desert surrounding them should have dropped substantially. Tonight, though, the heat clung stubbornly to the mountainsides, refusing to let the setting sun drag it down, and the desert winds succeeded only in pushing that heat around in pockets of warmer air, rather than dispersing them entirely. The heat made an already difficult task that much more uncomfortable, and Beckett took a moment out of his preparations to scowl at no one in particular. Beckett wouldn’t really stand out in a crowd. Brown hair just a bit longer than was currently in vogue, brown jeans, a white denim button-down that wasn’t currently buttoned, hiking boots and a backpack nearly large enough to crush a man who tried to put it on at the wrong angle. About the only truly unusual feature were the sunglasses he wore even late at night, an attention-getter he’d never have worn if they hadn’t served the very specific purpose of hiding his inhuman eyes from mortal observers. For similar reasons, he wore a pair of gloves to conceal the coarse hair and thick nails that marked his hands, a further legacy of his blood’s bestial heritage. Still, these oddities aside, he looked for the most part like a hiker, perhaps a European traveling the globe to “find himself.” Actually, Beckett knew exactly where he was. He was, in fact, traveling the globe to find something—or, in the more recent past, someone—else.

The Giovanni Chronicles Vampire 20th Anniversary Player Characters Create a vampire from any of the clans listed below. This chronicle starts off in medieval times so I’d like to keep it as pure as possible, therefore please consider not using Bloodlines. If you are adamant that you want to play a bloodline character please make sure it fits into the time frame and explain why you have to play it. I’m interested in telling a fun and a good story that starts at the inception of some major changes in vampire lore. I don’t want to have any comebacks because your bloodline gives you major advantages in the meta. Assamite , Brujah, Followers of Set, Gangrel, Lasombra, Malkavian, Nosferatu, Ravnos, Toreador, Tremere, Tzimisce, Ventrue If you want to research real life history to get a better feel for how your character lives then the year is 1444 and the place is Romania. Basically the Turks are taking over everything as the Ottoman Empire expands. Your average serf would know little outside of their village and some wouldn’t know much outside of their father’s pig farm. You are probably Christian, or Pagan, the Muslims are terrorising lands headed West. It’s basically their time to shine as Western terrorism has been failing recently. Sounds familiar somehow. I would recommend you do not research Kindred history, your characters will start off as humans and so aside from things that go bump in the night, vampire activities are very much concealed under the masquerade. You will be writing or at the very least witnessing Kindred history as part of this Chronicle so much of what you read could very well be science fiction by the time you encounter it.

  • SILVER AGE SENTINELS (D20)
Talking Up Our Products With the weekly influx of new roleplaying titles, it’s almost impossible to keep track of every product in every RPG line in the adventure games industry. To help you organize our titles and to aid customers in finding information about their favorite products, we’ve designed a set of point-of-purchase dividers. These hard-plastic cards are much like the category dividers often used in music stores, but they’re specially designed as a marketing tool for hobby stores. Each card features the name of one of our RPG lines printed prominently at the top, and goes on to give basic information on the mechanics and setting of the game, special features that distinguish it from other RPGs, and the most popular and useful supplements available. The dividers promote the sale of backlist items as well as new products, since they help customers identify the titles they need most and remind buyers to keep them in stock. Our dividers can be placed in many ways. These are just a few of the ideas we’ve come up with: •A divider can be placed inside the front cover or behind the newest release in a line if the book is displayed full-face on a tilted backboard or book prop. Since the cards 1 are 11 /2 inches tall, the line’s title will be visible within or in back of the book. When a customer picks the RPG up to page through it, the informational text is uncovered. The card also works as a restocking reminder when the book sells.

  • Hell - Another Great Deception
Hell - Another Great Deception (Copyright ©1truth1law.com 2015) The existence of a literal place called “hell,” where sinners suffer various forms of torment forever, has been ingrained in the minds of people for centuries and, in most cases, those who hold this belief accept it without much thought or study. Religious authorities have used this doctrine to control and manipulate their adherents by instilling fear and blind obedience in them. After all, who wants to be tormented for eternity? It’s better to listen to your church’s directives than turn your back on that authority and end up in hell as a result. Although it is not always stated in exactly these terms, a religious organization can make implications to this effect and its followers will accept and believe the lie. One of the problems associated with this false teaching is that it pictures Almighty God as an unjust and cruel tyrant who seems to enjoy seeing people suffer. In reality, it is “the god of this present evil age,” who gets satisfaction from the misfortunes of others, Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil age… (Gal. 1:3-4a; NKJV used throughout unless otherwise stated; emphasis added). But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of the age (Satan) has blinded … (2Cor. 4:3-4; Ed. notes in parenthesis; emphasis added). Those who see you (Satan) will gaze at you, and consider you, saying: ‘Is this this man (Satan when he is judged) who made the earth tremble (cf.

  • An Analysis of Hegemonic Social Structures in "Friends"
"I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU" IF YOU ARE JUST LIKE ME: AN ANALYSIS OF HEGEMONIC SOCIAL STRUCTURES IN "FRIENDS" Lisa Marie Marshall A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY August 2007 Committee: Katherine A. Bradshaw, Advisor Audrey E. Ellenwood Graduate Faculty Representative James C. Foust Lynda Dee Dixon © 2007 Lisa Marshall All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Katherine A. Bradshaw, Advisor The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the dominant ideologies and hegemonic social constructs the television series Friends communicates in regard to friendship practices, gender roles, racial representations, and social class in order to suggest relationships between the series and social patterns in the broader culture. This dissertation describes the importance of studying television content and its relationship to media culture and social influence. The analysis included a quantitative content analysis of friendship maintenance, and a qualitative textual analysis of alternative families, gender, race, and class representations. The analysis found the characters displayed actions of selectivity, only accepting a small group of friends in their social circle based on friendship, gender, race, and social class distinctions as the six characters formed a culture that no one else was allowed to enter. iv ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This project stems from countless years of watching and appreciating television. When I was in college, a good friend told me about a series that featured six young people who discussed their lives over countless cups of coffee. Even though the series was in its seventh year at the time, I did not start to watch the show until that season.

SOURCEBOOK GRR2011e LUCIEN SOULBAN · GREEN RONIN PUBLISHING SOURCEBOOK A refitted VTOL Carnival Air-freighter lumbers through the air like an overfed bumblebee, sluggish and heavy on the noise. You sit onboard, waiting to land. Not since the Atlanta Boys Convoy of 1934, when the government loaded 52 hardened criminals into a train and shipped them out to “inaugurate” Alcatraz Island, has secrecy and security been this heavy. For Super-Con Air, however, this is business as usual. The Carnival is the workhorse of convict transports; she can normally carry 23 passengers along with 22 tons of cargo, but following the refit, she’s hefting two additional power plants and space for 10 powered felons… eight awake and two asleep. Awake, you sit in reinforced cage called “The Egg,” because that’s what it looks like. The Egg suppresses active power fields and locks you down in sensory deprivation for the trip. It’s a blackout of your senses, designed to keep you off- balance when they finally transfer you out. Asleep, the Department of Justice deems you too powerful to risk handling. You’re probably a Type IV or V, and that makes folks nervous enough to crank you out in a hotsleep coffin. You won’t wake up until you’re imbedded 200 meters deep inside “the Mountain.” You feel like you’ve been in the dark for years before someone nudges your Egg. That’s just the VTOL setting down on the landing pad. A few minutes later, there’s motion again. They’ve disconnected your Egg from its suspension struts aboard the Carnival, and they’re wheeling you down the jet’s back ramp.

In the rural settings where most inhabitants of SSA live, religious organizations are the only formal organizations present, and virtually all residents of SSA participate in a religious organization. Many have theorized a relationship between religion and HIV/AIDS, suggesting alternately its helpful and harmful potential in this crisis. The existing research conceptualizes religion, HIV risk and the connection between them by studying individuals, organizations, or aggregations of individuals and organizations. In this dissertation, I demonstrate the adjustments a network perspective contributes to researchers’ ability to understand religious organizational responses to this epidemic, the nature of HIV-risk and, perhaps most importantly, how these are linked. The resulting conceptualization suggests some of the first mechanisms that demonstrate how
