Yes, indeed, with Mighty Armies having made its arrival on the scene, I am able to reveal my darkest secret. Worse than my Napoleonic re-enacting; worse than my penchant for ethnically obscure roleplaying characters; worse even than my daily struggle with the Weight Watchers diet. Yes, I am a wargamer. This month’s cover art showcases the work of Socar Myles, and will shortly be gracing the Even before roleplaying there was wargaming. In many ways the two hobbies are box of our new Bloodlines game. as the sides of that ever-popular coin. Yet for many gamers, the choice seems to be having to pick one or the other. For me this has always seemed more than a bit odd. Editor: Many roleplayers do indeed look at wargaming as simply playing with toy soldiers, Ian Barstow while in return many wargamers look down their noses at roleplayers, often because these heretics casually reject the use of miniatures to represent themselves. Managing Editor: Matthew Sprange At Mongoose, however, we have as many wargamers as roleplayers, so it made sense that sooner or later we would expand out into the tabletop gaming market. Mighty Production Manager: Armies is but the fi rst foray. Coming up behind is Gangs of Mega-City One, Alexander Fennell featuring all your Judge Dredd favourites, and looming in the darkness of 2005 is Starship Troopers no less! Pretty heady stuff, if I say so myself. Mongoose Staff: Rich Neale, Mark Humphries, Ian Belcher, Rich It would be churlish of me to mention that I won the staff Mighty Armies playtesting Ford, Bob Roberts and Ted Chang competition, so I won’t. Instead I shall merely point out that everybody at Mongoose Hall is very pleased the way the game has developed. The great thing about Mighty Artists: Chris Quilliams, Stephen Armies as an introductory fantasy game is that it really does everything it says on Cook, Eric Bergeron, James the tin. Within each box you get just all that you need to get playing (except an Holloway, John Thompson, Jason opponent – there was no room in the box for one of those, although we are working Walton, Socar Myles and Adrian on it). Bott, Marc Farrimond, Matt Sharp, Fey Boss, Sarwat Chadda and If all this wasn’t enough, we just happen to have the fi rst article in a series by none Jonny Nexus other than the venerable Gary Gygax himself in which he talks about the experiences which brought Dungeons and Dragons into being. This is defi nitely one not to miss. Miniatures Painter: Nathan Webb At the opposite end of the spectrum we have our fi rst supplementary piece for Macho Women With Guns. You may well have caught the guidance notice on the cover along with various hints throughout the magazine highlighting the nature of the ADVERTISING: All ads are subject scenario. Michael Straczynski 2 In the year 2113, 11 years before the start of the adventure, Mega-City One struggled to rebuild itself after the horrors of Necropolis. With so many killed in so short a period of time, hauntings and other strange psychic phenomena were widespread and Psi Division found itself worked fl at out, bringing many of its already highly strung members to breaking point. Psi- Judge Kaleb Jezzail was one of these. Called in to investigate what seemed to be a standard poltergeist emanation amid the ruins of the Susie Weißmeyer Block, Psi-Judge Jezzail encountered something far, far worse; the immeasurable pain and suffering caused by Necropolis had attracted the attention of Gorgomoth the Devourer, a powerful psychic entity from another dimension. Having discovered in Mega-City One a veritable smorgasbord of negative and violent emotions upon which to feed, Gorgomoth had already decided it wished to gain permanent access to the city. It quickly overwhelmed Jezzail’s shattered psychic defences, driving the Psi-Judge completely insane and taking possession of his mind. Gorgomoth had gained its fi rst disciple. This is the background to the latest Sampleadventure supplement file for the Judge Dredd Roleplaying Game. This is 98 pages of hi-octane excitement, the kind that only happens in Mega-City One! Isolated from the world, the vast kingdoms of the dwarves wax and wane hidden from the view of other races, fighting invisible battles against foes only they know. They smile inwardly when other races accuse them of insularism, of not giving full support when asked, when they never ask for any when facing the innumerable dangers of their underground homes. Dwarves are monolithic in bearing and attitude to the point that many believe that they are all alike, gruff warriors that hide behind their beards and armour.

CENSORSHIP AND “CHILD PROTECTION” Anthony John Larme Submitted as partial requirement for the degree of B.A. Honours, The University of Queensland © 3 November 2000 ii DECLARATION I declare that this thesis is my own work and has not been submitted in any other form for another degree or diploma at any university or other institute of tertiary education. Information derived from the published or unpublished work of others has been acknowledged in the text and a list of references is given. I also declare that I am familiar with the rules of the Department and the University relating to the submission of this thesis. Signature: …………………………………. My thesis due date was changed to 3 November 2000. Dr. Launitz- Schurer reconfirmed this extension on 23 October 2000. iii ABSTRACT Movements active in Australia and the United States of America over the past couple of decades have called for, and have caused, the censorship of fantasy role-playing games and computer games due to controversial content. They have used the excuse of “child protection” as a substitute for examining the far more pressing, but more complex, issues facing modern Western societies in an era of moral panic and crisis arising out of rapid social and economic change. Members of such movements are moral crusaders of fundamentalist and / or protectionist viewpoints. These patterns of behaviour have been common throughout history, particularly during the twentieth century in relation to entertainment media popular among youth.

  • Collectors Checklist by Richard © 2001, Version 2.7
Dungeons&Dragons Collectors Checklist by Richard © 2001, version 2.7 Well met and welcome to the Collectors Checklist! I made this checklist for myself to keep track of what TSR products I own. Many times was I in the position to photocopy (“Xerox”) a module or booklet that the owner didn’t wish to sell. So gradually my collection expanded with not only genuine products but also with photocopies. Since the coming of the officially digitized classic products (PDF) it is even harder to keep track of what product you own in what format. With the Collectors Checklist you will be able to sort your whole Dungeons&Dragons collection, no matter what the format is! For those out there who haven’t got a clue, here’s how to use the Collectors Checklist: TSR-Code : The product’s publishing code Sub-Code : When a product belongs to a specific group of products it carries this code Title : The product’s title (dah!) Hardcopy : Check this if you have the original item Copy : Check this if you have a copy (Xeroxcopy for instance) of the original product PDF : Check this if you have a digital copy(.pdf/.doc/etc.) of the original product HINT: you can even write down the number when you own more than one copy of a product ; ) If you think any items are missing, please mail me at [email protected] . Feel free to copy/share/print this list. Please visit these websites for the best Dungeons&Dragons archives on the Internet : http://www.acaeum.com http://home.flash.net/~brenfrow/index.htm .

At the center of this are the conflicts you've been thinking about. For example, the plot can be defined as an action that will unfold no matter what the players do. These events will help players delve into history and take them to the heart of the story. An example of intrigue can be something like the murder of an important NSPCC, like a queen or a duke. Natural disasters are often used as a plot of conflict. They can also be associated with magical disturbances, such as the intervention of a dark wizard to create an even more interesting plot. Another issue that can help you is predicting the consequences of all players' actions, including the most unlikely. For example, if the player does not choose to complete the search, the kingdom can go after the hero by tracking him as a criminal [6]! 2 Draw the battlefield. This can range from a destroyed temple to an underground cave, anything is possible. Your drawing should not be a work of art, but using it as a reference will help coordinate the actions of players at the beginning of the fight Simple shapes and labels work perfectly when you make a battlefield. You can use squares to make boxes, green triangles for trees and, for example, rock circles, so you don't have to be an artist! Drawing on the battlefield can take some time.

  • Adventure Scenarios for Merilee
AAAdventureAdventure Scenarios From Alanik Ray’s unearthunearthedededed archives A MATTER OF FAITH by J.W. Mangrum The adventure is set in Il Aluk, but if you’re playing in an up-to-date version of RL (i.e. Il Aluk is no more), it could probably fit just as well in any of Richemulot’s cities. One of the PC’s either has connections to an established church, or needs the ministrations of a powerful cleric. In the case of my campaign, a PC wanted someone to cast Regeneration for him (he had lost an arm and his face had been mauled). If the PC needs a favor, the cost for the requested spell is jaw-dropping. (In my campaign, Il Aluk was home to a cathedral to St. Cuthbert. Although pretty much a Good faith, the priests didn’t care for “back-sliders” whining for miracles when so many other people could use, and deserved, the priests’ time so much more. The clergy set the price at 50.000 gp, which knocked a few players off their feet.) In lieu of monetary donation, the clergy are willing to work out a deal: you see, they need a favor... If one of the PCs in the party is affiliated with the cathedral in question, they are simply called upon to perform a mission for their church. There are five cathedrals in Il Aluk; two of them have lain in ruin for as long as anyone can remember. The other three have to maintain a precarious balancing act to keep their parishioners.
