ANOTHER VIEW What Trump does best f the always eloquent President John F. Kennedy, a suave and mannered Democrat, was around today and said Iwhat you’re about to read, I suspect the distinguished members of our Fourth Estate would ask not what they could do for his words. The press would ask how it could quote his words more often every hour of every day. “The past does not have to define the future. Yesterday’s conflict does not have to be tomorrow’s war. And as history has proven over and over again, adversar- ies can indeed become friends,” President Trump told reporters in Singapore after his private meeting with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un. “We can honor the sacrifice of our forefathers by replacing the horrors of battle with the blessings of peace. And that’s what we’re doing and that’s what we have done,” Mr. Trump said. I haven’t heard or read these words quoted anywhere by the news media. The president was forecasting what he hopes is the imminence of a formal end to the war that U.S., South Korean and U.N. forces waged 65 years ago. It ended in an armistice, a cessation of hostilities pending a peace agreement that has yet to be fashioned. The enemy was North Korea, led back then by Kim Jong-un’s grandfather, Kim Il-sung. HIGH SCHOOL GOLF HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL Richards steps down Summer shootout at Fort White Will serve as assistant coach at Columbia under her brother and head coach Todd Carter.

FORT WHITE — With her daughter set to begin playing golf at Columbia, Tammy Richards knew it would be too difficult to continue coaching at Fort White. Richards has resigned as Fort White’s girls golf coach after just one season, where she helped lead the Lady Indians to a runner-up dis- FILE PHOTOS trict finish and a regional Columbia shortstop Dylan Blair (left) and catcher Jamie Minchin (right) were two of four Tigers selected for the 3rd berth in the program’s inau- Annual Southeastern Underclassmen Shootout. gural season. Both of her daughters will be going to school in Lake City this upcoming Richards year, with her oldest Peyton Gainey joining the Columbia golf team. Her younger daughter Karlee, who played for Fort White as a sixth-grader, will be enrolling at Lake City Middle but also plans to join the team in 2021. “My children are moving to go to school in Lake City and my oldest daughter will play for CHS so I can’t really coach one team when my kid is going to be playing on another team,” Richards said. She thought about continuing to coach at Fort White but Richards ultimately decided it would be too difficult with her daughter at another school. Instead, she’ll serve as an assistant under her brother and Columbia head coach Todd Carter. His daughter and Richards’ niece, Tiara, will be a senior on the team. Richards says Carter will coach his final season and she plans to take over for him in 2020.
