Polish Industry for Nuclear Energy Edition 2016 Ladies and Gentlemen Polish Industry for Nuclear Energy Edition 2016 Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to present you the catalog entitled “Polish Industry for Nuclear Energy”. This is the first document in Poland to identify en- terprises having competences in the area of nuclear power. The docu- ment has been prepared based on a comprehensive analysis of Polish industry carried out upon the commission of the Ministry of Energy. We are convinced that the catalog will serve as a guide for you re- garding Polish enterprises operating in the area of broadly under- stood power engineering, and not only nuclear energy. Polish industry has gained significant experiences and compe- tences in implementing nuclear power projects - mainly within the EU. Polish enterprises also implemented contract s for nuclear power plants outside of Europe. The competences and experiences of our enterprises from related sectors (conventional power engineering, chemical and petrochemical industry) can also be successfully used for the purposes of nuclear power. Our country is preparing for the construction of the first nuclear power plant. The company responsible for the implementation of the project is PGE EJ1 Sp. z o.o., which is currently preparing the lo- cation of the power plant and has entered the preliminary stage of choosing the technological partner. While preparing for the devel- opment of nuclear power, Poland has implemented relevant legal provisions, and extensive actions have been carried out in the field of gaining and maintaining public acceptance for the nuclear power as well as the proper preparation of the personnel. Ensuring the participation of national industry in the construc- tion, and afterwards in the operation of nuclear power plants will serve as one of the key areas guaranteeing the successfulness of this project in Poland. I truly hope that Polish industr y will find international par tners and that cooperation ties will be established for the purposes of engag- ing Polish entrepreneurs in international nuclear power projects, and that partners of Polish entrepreneurs will also efficiently cooperate for the benefit of the Polish nuclear power program. Wishing you a lot of success in the per formance of ambitious tasks in the area of nuclear power, Krzysztof Tchórzewski Minister Energii Rzeczpospolita Polska 1 CONTENTS Polish economy Civil engineering and energy sector 7 ― 37 5 ― 6 Chemistry 39 ― 43 Advice 45 ― 54 Electrical, automation control 55 ― 84 Mining 85 ― 86 Metallurgy, metal treatment 87 ― 99 Installations 101 ― 121 Logistics 123 ― 126 Machinery 127 ― 188 Ionizing radiation 189 ― 191 Polish economy and energy sector Strategic location in the heart of Europe The total maximum capcity in Polish Power System (PPS) reached The structure of power reachable in national power plants 39 777 MW (as at 31 December 2015). • Kuyavia and Pomerania, POLAND
Kuyavia and Pomerania, POLAND Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, located in the central-north part of Poland, has a surface of 18,000 square km and counts 2,1 mln inhabitants. It has two capitals – Bydgoszcz (governor's office) and Toruń (local government's office). The main towns of the region are Bydgoszcz (367,000 inhabitants), Toruń (200,000), Włocławek (120,000), Grudziądz (100,000) and Inowrocław (78,000). 61,4 % live in urban areas. The province is situated in the central part of Poland on both sides of the longest Polish river – the Vistula. There are a dozen or so higher education institutions in the region. Except from educational services they perform scientific researches. The most important ones are: The University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruń, The University of Casimir the Great and Technological-Natural University, both situated in Bydgoszcz. Kuyavia and Pomerania, POLAND The region has a strong food industry (30% of the total industrial production), with many enterprises switching to or continuing traditional ecological manufacture. The region is strong in introducing new technologies. Recent creation of Special Economic Zone in Łysomice allowed to open a Sharp plant as well as other Japanese and Corean factories. Regional authorities support numerous starting enterprises and therefore such organizations as The Center of Technological Transfer in Toruń and Toruń Technological Park have been appointed. The region has non-commercial broadband Internet network. The main airport is situated in Bydgoszcz. Founded in 1998, Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship is centrally located in northern Poland, between Pomorze and Mazury lake districts. It covers the area of 17.972 sq kilometres and equals 5.7 % of Poland’s territory.

SHORT NOTES SHORT NOTES* Acta Poloniae Historica 118, 2018 PL ISSN 0001–6829 GENERAL WORKS1 Marek Cetwiński, Drogi i bezdroża dziejopisarstwa [Roads and Off-Roads of Historiography], Studio AB, Olsztyn, 2017, 456 pp. Collections of minor works penned by historians are more and more frequently published in Poland. This is a third such anthology as far as Professor Marek Cetwiński is concerned, offering an edition of scattered articles, the earliest of which was fi rst published in 1992 (the places of original publication are given in the introduction, pp. 7–12). Based in Wrocław and Częstochowa, Cetwiński started his scholarly career with studying the chivalry of Silesia, and proved himself a veritable polyhistor who daringly crosses the rigid limits of historical periods. While small and elusive, his studies are by no means banal. They made us aware how much our view of the past is dependent on the worldview of the historians we draw our knowledge from. At the same time, Cetwiński appears as a methodological purist who exhorts to develop a certain, rather than ‘the only probable’, reconstruction of the past – an exercise that tends to be perceived in ideological terms. He moreover points to a variety of long-living ideological patterns, some of which have persisted since antiquity. Grouped into six parts, the fi fty-plus studies collected in the volume form a sort of silva rerum – as customary with this author. The fi rst part contains studies on the role of ambition and imagination in the historiography of yore (from Wincenty Kadłubek to Adam Mickiewicz). The second deals with the impact, strong as it is, of past events on the present time.

  • Wolves in the Toruń Basin
Ecological Questions 13/2010: 47 – 53 DOI: 10.2478/v10090–010–0015–4 Wolves in the Toruń Basin Piotr Sewerniak Department of Soil Science, Institute of Geography, Nicolaus Copernicus University, Gagarina 9, 87-100 Toruń, Poland, e-mail: [email protected] Abstract. The present wolf population of the Toruń Basin is one of the very few that exist in the central and the western part of Po- land. Wolves populated the region at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, and at least since 2004 they reproduced in the forests on both sides of the Vistula River. The population from the Toruń Basin is probably an important source of wolves that colonize Western Poland and spread to Western Europe. However, the human pressure on the environment is continuously increasing in the Toruń Basin, therefore the future stability of the existence of wolves in the region is uncertain. The aim of the paper is to present the main data on the occurrence of wolves in the Toruń Basin, together with the main human threats to the wolf population in this region. Key words: Canis lupus, the Toruń Basin, the Bydgoszcz Primeval Forest, predators, Poland. 1. Introduction The Toruń Basin is a large, latitudinal elongated area (about 250 square km), built mainly of fluvial and eolian sands. The region is characterized by poor soils, not suitable for agricultural purposes (Bednarek & Jankowski 2006). Con- sequently, the afforestation rate is high in the Toruń Basin, with Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) as a dominant tree spe- cies in forest stands on poor habitats. The high proportion of forest in the land use of the Toruń Basin results in the fact that the region is an important refuge of wild animals, such as the wolf (Canis lupus).

  • Traditional Jewish Attitudes Toward Poles by Mark Paul
October 2008 Traditional Jewish Attitudes Toward Poles by Mark Paul Mutual prejudices and stereotypes have been harboured by both Poles and Jews, in relation to one another, for long centuries. However, few authors writing about this topic in the West have detected that Jews, no less than Poles, succumbed to a similar view of the other group, and fewer still have analyzed the impact of Jewish attitudes on mutual relations with Poles. A patently obvious yet much overworked theme in studies of Polish-Jewish relations is that of “Otherness,” with its exclusive focus on Polish attitudes toward Jews. In a multi-ethnic setting such as prewar Poland, however, where Poles were themselves in a minority in many towns and areas, in a country that had reemerged after more than a century of foreign, colonial-like rule, that focus is skewed as it provides little understanding of the dynamics of inter-ethnic relations in the context of the dramatic social, political and economic upheavals that befell Poland. The truth of the matter is that all ethnic and religious groups traditionally viewed members of other groups as outsiders and treated them with suspicion, if not hostility.1 “Otherness” was in fact a mainstay of traditional Judaism, no less than of Christian society, and the separateness of the Jews was accentuated by the claim that they were God’s “Chosen People.” The Jewish community was the repository of longstanding religious-based biases that instilled far greater affinity and solidarity with co-religionists from other regions and even other lands than with their Christian neighbours.2 In Poland, Jews lived in closed, tightly knit, isolated communities largely of their own making.

It can be assumed that the depicted region possesses the necessary potential, both natural and cultural, to develop various types and forms of tourism. Still, this development is conditioned by the current state of tourist-centred preparations and local economy, especially in relation to expenditure on tourism. In addition, one can suppose that the development of tourism will be supported by fulfilling the tasks aimed at the revitalisation of the lower course of the River Vistula, mainly focusing on the E70 waterway fragment. The analysis of the socio- economic situation together with the tourism potential in the studied region has been enabled by the statistical data provided by the Local Data Bank of the Central Statistical Office (Bank Danych Lokalnych GUS), and by finding documents and analysis relating to the revitalisation of inland waterways in Poland.
