  • Electoral Review of Crawley Borough Council
Electoral Review of Crawley Borough Council Pattern of Wards April 2018 INTRODUCTION The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) are conducting a review of the electoral arrangements of Crawley Borough Council during 2018. The Commission monitors levels of electoral equality between Wards within each local authority and conducts reviews where changes in population lead to a reduction in the levels of electoral equality. The aim of a review is to establish Ward boundaries that mean each Borough Councillor represents approximately the same number of voters. The electoral arrangements for Crawley were last reviewed in 2002. Development in the Borough since that time, particularly in the Three Bridges Ward has led to electoral inequality between Wards and the review by the LGBCE will address this inequality. The review covers • The number of Councillors to be elected to the Council (Council size) • The number, names and boundaries of Wards • The number of Councillors to be elected for each Ward The Commission has announced that it is minded that Crawley Borough Council should have 36 Borough Councillors and has invited proposals on a pattern of electoral Wards to accommodate those Councillors. This document sets out Crawley Borough Council’s response. The Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009 sets out the criteria that the LGBCE must have regard to in conducting electoral reviews. The Council has developed a proposed pattern of Wards which offer the best balance of these statutory requirements which are: • The need to secure equality of representation • The need to reflect the identities and interests of local communities • The need to secure effective and convenient local government BACKGROUND TO CRAWLEY Crawley is a vibrant town which sits in the heart of the Gatwick Diamond sub region.

  • 1998.1358 Full Transcript to the ELECTORS OF
1998.1358 Full transcript TO THE ELECTORS OF THE HORSHAM OR NORTH-WESTERN DIVISION OF SUSSEX _________________________ GENTLEMEN, I thank you very sincerely and very humbly for returning me to-day for the third time as your Member, and that without a contest. Very humbly I say, for heavy responsibility will rest upon every member of this new Parliament, which will have to deal with questions of the gravest moment, and of the deepest concern tio the future welfare, if not to the very existence of our Empire. The settlement in the immediate future of those countries now or lately in arms against us, to bring to them not only peace but goodwill among men, and to enable our foes to appreciate the true freedom which exists under the British flag is no light undertaking; and the wise application to our Army system of the lessons taught us in that war is another task which may try our system of Parliamentary Government in no common degree. I am glad to know from some of the names which appear on the nomination papers which I handed in to-day that the great constituency which has given me a share in this most honourable but most responsible duty looks far beyond the petty pitfalls of mere party politics; and while not forgetting those domestic questions and local interests which rightly have a claim upon me, I shall make the welfare of our country my chief concern, and seeking to build upon the best and surest foundation, I shall endeavour as your representative to discharge in some measure that debt of gratitude which we owe to our soldiers, our people and our colonies, who in the time of need have rallied to their country’s flag in a manner which has been the admiration of the civilised world, and will be the priceless inheritance of those who come after us.

point your feet on a new path Graffham Down Distance: 9½ km=6 miles or 5 km=3¼ miles moderate walking Region: West Sussex Date written: 31-aug-2020 Author: Hautboy Last update: 14-feb-2021 Refreshments: The Foresters after the walk, or picnic Map: Explorer 121 (Arundel) but the map in this guide should be sufficient Problems, changes? See Principles on main webpage. Village, extensive forest, high hills, views, long woodland trails In Brief This is a stirring walk up into the heights of the South Downs. The downs are steep on the north side and fall away gently on the south side, with vast acres of forest. Your initial ascent uses a zigzagging route so that your legs won’t tire too soon. At the top, you meet the South Downs Way (SDW) long-distance path and probably many families, walking groups and bikes. Here you have a choice between an easy walk on the SDW, including a local nature reserve, and a more challenging forest trail where you will navigate a fascinating network of dense woodland paths, all signposted. There is only one sturdy compulsory stile and only 200m on a cul-de-sac lane, so this walk is a perfect escape into the calming haven of nature. There are a few patches of nettles, at least on the main walk, and quite a bit of undergrowth, so bare legs are not advisable.
