  • NEIGHBOURHOOD DEVELOPMENT PLAN AUGUST 2015 (Including Post Exam Modifications)
BOGNOR REGIS 2015—2030 NEIGHBOURHOOD DEVELOPMENT PLAN AUGUST 2015 (including post exam modifications) I THE REPORT IS MADE ACCESSIBLE AT THIS WEBSITE: WWW.BOGNORREGIS.GOV.UK/BR-TOWN-COUNCIL/NEIGHBOURHOOD_PLAN-16104.ASPX This document has been produced by Bognor Regis Town Council’s Neighbourhood Plan Committee with support from: Imagine Places, Royal Town Planning Institute/Planning Aid England, Locality, Integrated Urbanism, BPUD, the Prince’s Foundation for Building Community and - most importantly - the good people of Bognor Regis that have at various stages of the process so far contributed and helped to shape this plan. Disclaimer: This document is optimised for online viewing only. Please consider the environment before printing. Hardcopies are available for viewing at the Town Hall in Bognor Regis. II FOREWORD WELCOME TO THE BOGNOR REGIS NEIGHBOURHOOD DEVELOPMENT PLAN! Bognor Regis Town Council are very aware of the strength of feeling and loyalty towards the town and the oft-expressed view that many of its finer buildings have been lost over the years or replaced with ones of lesser architectural merit or inappropriately sited. The Town Council believe that having a Neighbourhood Plan in place will give local people much more say in the future planning of the town with regard to buildings and green spaces; their quality, look, feel, usage and location, as well as offering some protection to existing sites and buildings, much loved and valued by the community. The idea of Neighbourhood Plans initially came about because central government felt it important that local people had more of a say in what happened in their own town or village.

We depend on your feedback: [email protected] Public rights are restricted to printing, copying or distributing this document exactly as seen here, complete and without any cutting or editing. See Principles on main webpage. Hills, woodland, views, villages, pubs In Brief This is an unforgettable circular walk between two quiet downland villages. In between them is the escarpment of the South Downs, steep in the north and sloping gently down on the south side. There is a moderate climb at the start but, after that, the gradients are not too taxing. The terrain is mainly woodland but on the way you will be surprised by sudden views. There is an excellent friendly village pub, with good food, in each village. Note that the Unicorn in Heyshott is closed on Monday (for info ring 01730- 813486). The Star and Garter in East Dean has re-opened (as Apr 2019). It's always advisable to check (t heir number is 01243-811318). There are one or two short sections along this walk with nettles or scratchy undergrowth – enough to make shorts uncomfortable. The ground under- foot is generally firm and dry, although possibly in wet conditions the path back to Heyshott at the end might have some muddy patches.

  • Bluebell Railway Education Department Along the Line
BLUEBELL RAILWAY EDUCATION DEPARTMENT ALONG THE LINE FOR SCHOOLS SHEFFIELD PARK STATION 1. Approaching the station buildings along the drive, the picnic area can be seen to the right, adjacent to the River Ouse, where lunch can be taken. The river is little more than a stream today but it was once navigable from the sea at Newhaven to just short of Balcombe Viaduct – on the London to Brighton main line between Haywards Heath and Balcombe. The 11 million bricks used to construct the viaduct were transported up river from Lewes by barge. 2. The station is built in the Queen Anne country architectural style, a style used at all stations on the line and is painted in the colours of the line's initial operators, the London Brighton and South Coast Railway. The year in which the line opened – 1892 -can be found in the decorative plasterwork on the front of the station building. Passengers enter the station via the booking hall and purchase their old fashioned Edmondson cardboard tickets from the booking office. The station was originally lit by oil lamps but is now lit by a mix of evocative gas lighting and more modern electric lights. It sits astride the Greenwich Meridian, the exact (Photo: Bluebell Archives) location being marked by a plaque at the north end of platform 1. 3. The Railway houses and maintains its fleet of mainly steam locomotives at the station - currently it has some thirty engines in stock although only ten or so are in service at any given time – they need a boiler inspection and a new certificate every ten years.

Being aligned north-south, it crosses all the main geologies of West Sussex from the greensand ridges, through Wealden river valleys and heathlands, to the high chalk downland and the coastal plain. In so doing it offers a great variety of scenery, flora and fauna. The trail logo reflects this by depicting the South Downs, the River Rother and Chichester Harbour. It can be walked energetically in three days, bearing in mind that the total ‘climb’ is around 650 metres/2,000 feet. The maps divide it into six sections, which although unequal in distance, break the route into stages that allow the possible use of public transport. There is a good choice of accommodation and restaurants in Liphook, Midhurst and Chichester, elsewhere there is a smattering of pubs and B&Bs – although the northern section is a little sparse in that respect.
