Detail Itinerary Day 1 Phnom Penh arrival Welcome to Phnom Penh! Upon your arrival at the airport, pick up and transfer to hotel. (Rooms are often available from 14:00). In the afternoon, visit a local market to see daily selling and buying habit of locals and do some shopping as you wish. Round off your day by boarding a boat to enjoy magnificent sunset on the Mekong River. This cruise will take around 1 hour with welcome drink served on boat. Dinner at a Khmer restaurant. It is mainly distinguished by its regionalism, freshness and seasonality. Chef will introduce the use of vegetables, fruits, spices, herbs, meat, fish... The cooking class is hands-on and interactive, so own cooking station is provided for each person. Try your hand on preparing three traditional Khmer dishes under the instruction of your chef. What to do once you have finished? Eat them! After lunch time, take a Khmer Architecture Tour by cyclo to discover the signature features of the new architecture which reflected a far-reaching cultural and social vision for Cambodia. The tour proposes to explore central Phnom Penh and some colonial buildings, as well as modern post-independence architecture. After a brief historical introduction to the city, you will be taken around the Post Office, then head for the Central Market area, and a selection of well-known buildings as well as some less obvious examples of religious architecture. After that, head for Kampong Thom (4 hour driving). On the way, we will stop at Skuon, known as "spider town", which is famous to international visitors for fried spiders. Continue to visit Sambor Prei Kuk, the capital of the once powerful Empire of Chenla which predates the Khmer Angkor period. Stop en route for sightseeing and intermingle with the local people. Visit Sambor Prei Kuk. According to inscriptions found in the area, Sambor Prei Kuk was the capital of a pre-Angkor Kingdom called Chenla in 7th Century. Have lunch at a local restaurant in Kampong Thom. After the lunch time, continue to Siem Reap (2 hour driving). Arrive at Siem Reap late in the afternoon. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the hotel. Kethana is famous for her work with many celebrity chefs including Gordon Ramsay and Luke Nguyen. In the course, you will learn about various dishes and recognize the differences between Khmer and other regional cuisines. Kethana will instruct you how to prepare Cambodian dishes. The class lasts about 2-3 hours. Appreciate the fruits of your labor by tasting your own dishes. After lunch, drive to the pretty temple of Banteay Srei “Citadel of the Women”. It displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art. Banteay Srei is unique in that it is constructed of pink sandstone, which is seen nowhere else in Angkor. On the way back to hotel, visit the ancient "Jungle Temple" Ta Prohm where Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones Temple of Doom were filmed. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at the hotel. Then, we travel southeast to the floating village Kampong Khleang in the area of Tonle Sap Lake. We explore the canals (wet season) or streets (dry season) of this incredible town. In the wet season, the houses appear to be floating, but in the dry season towering stilts are revealed. Cruise into the open water of the great lake to see some more of this incredible natural flood barrier. After lunch, drive for an hour back to hotel Siem Reap. Dinner on your own.
