  • TRIUMPH 1800-2000 Renown Saloon the Triumph 1800-2000
TRIUMPH 1800-2000 Renown Saloon The Triumph 1800-2000 Saloon known as the “Razor Edge” due to its straight angular panels and sharp profile was built between 1946 and 1953. It was a post war car built to pre-war specifications i.e. a separate chassis, with the body built up as a traditional ash frame and styling that dated back to the late 1930’s. The sedan copied the Rolls Royce and Bentleys of the time in its styling, and was one of the first cars to be stretched to make a limousine, complete with glass partition behind the driver. Initially the vehicle was fitted with a 1776cc four-cylinder engine developing 65bhp which in 1948 was enlarged to 2088cc (still only producing 68bhp) and had a top speed of around 80mph. Late models had overdrive as an option on their 3-speed gearboxes and the Renown appeared as an upgraded 2000 Sedan in 1950. The car was not a commercial success however as despite its luxurious appointments, it was always too expensive, compared to its competition and in the British post-war ‘export or die’ atmosphere less than 10% of the total production of 15,400 were exported. TRIUMPH MAYFLOWER The Mayflower was introduced in 1949 and was Triumph’s first post war “small” car. The razor edge lines allowed excellent space utilisation enabling four adults to fit in with ease. It was one of the first cars to feature the “modern” trend of a large glass area, and the square boot handled a full compliment of luggage.

  • Pogrammme 2013
E4 Our ‘proper’ Oldtimer numbers this year are about the same as last year, but our Classic entries—1973 on if in a C2 club—have grown significantly so that our numbers this year will be nudging 400—yet again a record. As the format of this programme, which we introduced last year, has proved successful, we’ve naturally stuck with it. You should be able to get this and last year’s programme on your mobile etc from www.Oldtimer.uk.com, where you can request email circulars on our rallies; next year we intend to accept entries online via our website, www.Oldtimer.uk.com—however, if you still require a paper entry form for next year, please either give the Secretary at HQ here today or send her by post a Stamped Addressed Envelope, as in future we will only be sending information by email—if you’ve had to pay postage bills lately you’ll know why! As many of you will know, the Airshow planned for 8th June this year didn’t happen—although by way of compensation the Red Arrows did come, giving a wonderful display lasting nearly half an hour. With just seven days notice we were allowed to organise a rally on The Leas here, and 40 cars turned up to take advantage of the offer—as seems to be MG TA 1937 usual for our events, in magnificent warm sunshine. The central photo on the cover taken over the bonnet of a mag- nificent Silver Cloud III gives the flavour! As ever, we are grateful to our sponsors, Folkestone Town Council, for the prizes and plaques, our judges and mar- shals From Folkestone Automobile Club and the Lions, local landowners and businesses for displaying posters, and Shepway District Council for smartening up The Leas for the Bank Holiday.

  • Identifying Your Car 75
Identifying Your Car 75 Model Years A model year does not necessarily coincide with the year in which the car was built. For example, it may be seen from the following chart that while a car built in January 1972 is indeed a 1972 model year car, another one built in August of that year is a 1973 model year car. There are several different reasons for this. One reason is that it is easier to bring in changes in a model's specification when production has been halted already for a holiday shut down. Another reason is that motor shows usually took place in the Autumn and Winter, displaying the following year's new or updated models. Detailed here are the Sprite and Midget model years relevant to this catalogue. Model Model Year First chassis no. Start Date Location of Serial Numbers MG Midget MkIII 1967 G-AN4-52390 October 1966 Austin Healey Sprite MkIV 1967 H-AN9-64735 October 1966 Chassis Number (All Models) MG Midget MkIII 1968 G-AN4-60460 November 1967 The chassis is stamped on a plate Austin Healey Sprite MkIV 1968 H-AN9-72041 November 1967 secured to the support step on the LH inner wheel arch under the bonnet. MG Midget MkIII 1969 G-AN4-66226 December 1968 Austin Healey Sprite MkIV 1969 H-AN9-77591 December 1968 MG Midget MkIII 1970 G-AN5-74886 September 1969 Austin Healey Sprite MkIV 1970 H-AN10-85287 September 1969 MG Midget MkIII 1971 G-AN5-96273 December 1970 Austin Healey Sprite MkIV 1971 H-AN10-86766 December 1970 Body Number (All Models) Austin Sprite MkIV 1971 A-AN10-86803 January 1971 The body number is stamped on a plate MG Midget MkIII 1972 G-AN5-105501 October 1971 secured to the LH front door pillar.
