HS2 - Category III Check Rail of Scheme Design for C2 and C3

END CLIENT: This project concerns the Category III check of the Scheme Design for Main Works Eiffage Genie Civil; Contracts C2 and C3 of HS2 Phase 1, which is a high-speed rail link between London Euston and Birmingham. Kier Infrastructure and Overseas Ltd; HS2 Ltd Contract C2 consists of the section between North Portal of Chiltern Tunnels and Brackley. COLLABORATING FIRMS: Jacobs UK Ltd Contract C3 consists of the section from Brackley to Long Itchington Wood Green Tunnel South Portal. LOCATION: UK Rendel’s services: CAPEX: £965 million Rendel was appointed to provide the Category III independent design check services of primary permanent work assets and components within the scope of FEES: £2.25 million Lots C2 and C3.

• Two ‘green tunnels’ 1. Chipping Warden cut and cover tunnel - Precast concrete Matiere twin arch, maximum cover 16m, total length of 2400m 2. Wendover Green cut and cover tunnel - Prestressed Matiere twin arch, total length of 1425m

• Seven truss bridges 1. 6No. 56m single span weathering steel Vierendeel trusses 2. 1No. 3 span weathering steel trusses with central span 56m. Total length 96m

• Two pre-stressed overbridges 1. Bridleway AX16 Accommodation Overbridge: 3-span, pre-stressed bridge with total length 93m 2. Footpath SM101 Green Overbridge - 3-span pre-stressed bridge with total length 69m

• One composite overbridge - Perry Hill Overbridge - 2-span 92m skewed multi- girder steel composite Overbridge with total length 95m

• Seven underbridges 1. 4No. single span precast concrete box Underbridges. Lengths varying between 4- 9m 2. 3No. single span in-situ portal Underbridge. Lengths varying between 4- 13m

• Six earthworks 1. Small Dean North Embankment - 733m embankment, max height 12.9m 2. Small Dean South Embankment - 1026m embankment, max height 9.5m 3.
