[email protected] www.uni-giessen.de/cms/internationales Giessen, December 2014 Dear International Students, It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to the city of Gies- sen and to our university – a university with a history of over 400 years and a university town with the highest ratio of stu- dents in Germany. We are particularly proud of our international outlook. Today, JLU is cooperating with some 215 selected universities in 28 European countries in the ERASMUS programme alone. In ad- dition, JLU maintains a strong network with strategic partners around the world to ensure that academic exchange and coop- eration take place at all levels throughout the university. This brochure contains a wealth of useful information about the city of Giessen as well as about the university and its or- ganisational structure. I hope that it answers most of the ques- tions you might be asking yourself before coming here. If you need further information on specific issues or personal advice, our International Office and your departmental supervisors will be only too pleased to help you. Apart from academic life, social life is a very important fac- tor when studying abroad. I therefore warmly recommend our intercultural meeting centre “Lokal International”, which is run 2 JUSTUS-LIEBIG-UNIVERSITÄT GIESSEN by our International Office and the Studentenwerk Giessen, our local student services organisation. It is an excellent place to meet other students and to exchange views on academic and personal matters.
