A todos os que em algum momento transmitiram uma palavra de confiança e força. 10 Jornalismo Participativo “O sistema jornalístico melhorará quando se tornar mais útil para as pessoas” Jay Rosen 12 Jornalismo Participativo Resumo A participação dos cidadãos no processo noticioso lança desafios ao jor- nalismo e leva a repensar conceitos determinantes como a mediação e o gatekeeping. Produzir e consumir informação, experiências que antes estavam bem definidas, confundem-se agora numa ambivalência que le- vou a designações como produser (Bruns, 2008) e prosumer (Jenkins, 2008). Os gatewatchers (Bruns, 2005) impõem-se aos tradicionais ga- tekeepers e a visibilidade dos temas pode ser determinada pelos utiliza- dores (Singer, 2013) num espaço público cada vez mais fragmentado. Um dos caminhos seguidos pelos jornais online passou por criar secções dedicadas à publicação de conteúdos gerados pelos utilizado- res, uma possibilidade que aparece identificada com o “jornalismo do cidadão” (Gillmor, 2005; Rosen, 2008; Thurman, 2008) ou “jornalismo participativo” (Bowman and Willis, 2003; Domingo et al, 2007; Singer et al, 2011), entre outros conceitos que identificam práticas semelhantes no contexto da web 2.0. Este trabalho passa por analisar as características do conteúdo pu- blicado pelos cidadãos nos espaços que os seguintes jornais online de Portugal e Espanha proporcionam: Correio da Manhã, Diário de Notí- cias, jornal i, Jornal de Notícias, El País, El Mundo e La Vanguardia. Verificar se existem elementos característicos da prática jornalística, ou seja, se os cidadãos fazem jornalismo nos espaços denominados “jor- nalismo cidadão”, é um dos nossos principais objectivos. Os resultados assinalam que os conteúdos observados não se identificam com os pro- cedimentos básicos do jornalismo, fundamentais para garantir a credi- bilidade da informação. A capacidade dos cidadãos para participar no processo noticioso po- deria revigorar a esfera pública (Haas, 2007; Papacharissi, 2009; Her- mida, 2011), mas essa ideia, bem como os desafios ao jornalismo tra- dicional apresentados por este tipo de práticas, estão ainda longe de cumprir as promessas iniciais. Palavras-chave: participação, jornalismo, cidadãos, web 2.0. 14 Jornalismo Participativo Abstract The participation of citizens in the news process challenges journalism and requires the rethinking of concepts such as mediation and gateke- eping. To produce and to consume information, experiences that were previously well defined, are now confused in an ambivalence that led to designations as produser (Bruns, 2008) and prosumer (Jenkins, 2008). The gatewatchers (Bruns, 2005) impose to the traditional gatekeepers and the visibility of the issues can be determined by users (Singer, 2013) in a public space increasingly fragmented. One of the paths followed by online newspapers was to create sec- tions devoted to the publication of user-generated content, a possibility that appears identified with the “citizen journalism” (Gillmor, 2005; Ro- sen, 2008; Thurman, 2008) or the “participatory journalism” (Bowman and Willis, 2003; Domingo et al, 2007; Singer et al, 2011), among other concepts that identify similar practices in the context of web 2.0. This work involves analyzing the characteristics of the content pu- blished by the citizens in the spaces that the following online newspa- pers from Portugal and Spain provide: Correio da Manhã, Diário de Notícias, jornal i, Jornal de Notícias, El País, El Mundo and La Van- guardia. Checking for characteristic elements of journalistic practice, ie, if citizens do journalism in spaces called “citizen journalism”, is one of our main objectives. The results show that the contents do not identify with the basic procedures of journalism needed to ensure the credibility of the infor- mation. The ability of citizens to participate in the news process could reinvigorate the public sphere (Haas, 2007; Papacharissi, 2009; Her- mida, 2011), but this idea, as well the challenges to traditional journa- lism presented by such practices, are still far from fulfill initial promi- ses. Este foi o título de um anúncio publicado no diário espanhol La Voz de Madrid, em 1935, por uma agência de notícias que procurava profissionais para “um serviço de re- portagens por toda a Espanha”. É interessante observar que o texto começa por dizer que “todos somos jornalistas”. Entre os requisitos so- licitados assinala-se a “facilidade de escrita, cultura e sagacidade para descobrir onde está o interesse”. Prometia-se um pagamento significa- tivo para este trabalho que até podia ser desenvolvido de forma “anó- nima”. Não deixam de ser curiosas as semelhanças com temas que hoje lançam desafios ao jornalismo profissional e que passam pelo papel de- senvolvido pelos próprios cidadãos, até porque, nos últimos anos, não raras vezes, foram eles que captaram e difundiram imagens e informa- ções sobre acontecimentos relevantes.
