It was recommended by Dr Hans Klaui, Genealogical Investigation Office, Oberwinterthur, Switzerland through correspondence with Spencer Overholser and Dr Winfred Overholser, then Supt. of St Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington DC. Pertinent portions of the letter of 2/29/1956 are quoted as follows: "In the historical-biographical dictionary of Switzerland, the coat-of-arms Oberholzer is described as follows: 'Obliquely divided, above of red with a half moon and two stars, below of silver with two green oaks.' The setting was so beautiful and serene - truly a place filled with God's Holy Spirit. Our speakers, Fred Ickes, Lois Byrum and Annette K. Burgert gave us much valuable information and tools to aid us in furthering our own research. I especially want to thank our editor, Barbara Dittig and her husband, Jim Dittig for making it all work so smoothly. The thesis asks this question of the life and work of female faith missionaries who served in Western Australia with the Australian Aborigines’ Mission and/or the United Aborigines’ Mission, during the twentieth century. In 1902, the New South Wales Aborigines’ Mission adopted faith mission principles based on those of the China Inland Mission founded in 1865. The mission expanded into Western Australia in 1908 and changed its name to the Australian Aborigines’ Mission. From 1929, it was known as the United Aborigines’ Mission. The research began with a historiography of the China Inland Mission and the United Aborigines’ Mission and its antecedents. The analysis of the principles of these two missions identified that some characteristics of a faith mission were present in the New South Wales Aborigines’ Mission from the beginning and others were never adopted. It established that from 1902, the New South Wales Aborigines’ Mission upheld the faith principles of trusting God to provide physical needs, not soliciting for funds and not entering into debt. Because most faith missionaries were female, the historiography proceeded to examine texts on women missionaries, including recent work by Australian writers.

    SELECTED ANABAPTIST AND MENNONITE MATERIALS IN PRINT AND ONLINE IN THE GENEALOGY CENTER John D. Beatty, CG® The Genealogy Center of the Allen County Public Library is the largest genealogical collection in a public library in the United States. With more than 42,000 square feet of space, the Center houses millions of items in print, on microfilm, and online. The major collection focus is North America (U.S. and Canada), but we do have a large number of materials from Western Europe. It is also an affiliate of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, which means that visitors have access to many digital items on the Familysearch website that are not viewable to the general public. The Genealogy Center does not specialize in Mennonite sources, but there are a large number of Mennonite and Anabaptist materials in the collection. It also owns more than 65,000 published family histories, many of which are of Mennonite origin. A good place to begin research is with the online catalog, accessible through www.genealogycenter.org. You can search by surname, by place, or by subject such as “Mennonite.” There are also computers available for public use. These feature many online databases that are free to library users.
