Brazil: An Alternative Report to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) and its Brazilian partners submitted this alternative report on the human rights situation in Brazil to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights during the Committee’s 42nd session (27 April – 15 May 2009). The purpose of this report is to identify the violations of economic, social and cultural rights that are the root causes of torture and other forms of violence in Brazil and recommend action to eliminate torture and other forms of violence by addressing those root causes. This report was prepared in collaboration with two Brazilian human rights NGOs: Brazil • Justiça Global; and • the National Movement of Street Boys and Girls (MNMMR).
