DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT MEDIA RELEASE Date: 7th October 2014 Embargo: None CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR NPO FUNDING The Department is calling for funding proposals from non-profit, non-governmental, community based and faith based organisations as well as cooperatives, rendering social welfare and community development services in all five districts of the province. The funding is for a period of three years, namely 2015/16 to 2017/18. NPO’s rendering services in early childhood development (including non-centre based), home community based care; community based services for children; child and youth care centres; victim empowerment programmes; services to older persons; services to people with disabilities; services to families; prevention, treatment and rehabilitation services on substance abuse; social crime prevention youth development services; cooperatives and sustainable livelihoods projects, can apply. Organizations or cooperative managed by women, people living with disability and unemployed youth are especially encouraged to apply. Successful NPO’s will enter into a contract with the Department for a period of one year and further funding into the next financial years will depend on compliance with funding requirements. Requirements for funding are outlined in a guideline document which is available at all five district offices of the Department of Social Development.
