It employs a theoretical framework that examines the mechanisms, development, function and phylogeny of behavior variation in order to develop practical tools for preventing biodiversity loss and extinction. Developed from a symposium held at the International Congress for Conservation Biology in 2011, this is the first book to offer an in-depth, logical framework that identifies three vital areas for understanding conservation behavior: anthropogenic threats to wildlife, conservation and management protocols, and indicators of anthropogenic threats. Bridging the gap between behavioral ecology and conservation biology, this volume ascertains key links between the fields, explores the theoretical foundations of these linkages, and connects them to practical wildlife management tools and concise applicable advice. Adopting a clear and structured approach throughout, this book is a vital resource for graduate students, academic researchers, and wildlife managers. ODED BERGER-TAL is a senior lecturer at the Mitrani Department of Desert Ecology of Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. His research centers upon the integration of behavioral ecology into wildlife conservation and management. DAVID SALTZ is a Professor of Conservation Biology at the Mitrani Department of Desert Ecology, and the director of the Swiss Institute for Desert Energy and Environmental ResearchofBenGurionUniversityoftheNegev, Israel. We provide a comparison of Oxya kashmorensis sp.nov. and O. nitidula which is RS designed the study and compiled recorded from Pakistan for the first time. Comparative information on the female genitalia of both species the data. NS collected the samples and is provided. Further, a note on the ecology and distribution of both species is given. With the addition of MSW identified the species. O. kashmorensis and the new record of O. nitidula, the numbers of known species in genus Oxya is raised to 9 for Pakistan and 5 for Sindh. We further provide a key to the Oxya species from Sindh. Kenyon, Librarian National Zoological Park Branch Smithsonian Institution Libraries Washington, DC DATE: November 1984 LAST UPDATE: January 1995 INTRODUCTION The following bibliography of the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is for the research scientist, but is useful for anyone interested in pandas. It includes popular as well as serious scientific works in foreign languages as well as in English. References cover all aspects of the giant panda--its discovery, evolution, physiology, anatomy, behavior, reproduction, feeding habits, and diseases. This bibliography is divided into four sections and is arranged alphabetically by author. Both articles and books are included. The first section begins in 1936 when the first giant panda, Su-Lin, was brought to the United States and covers the next two decades (1936-1956). The second section covers the next 20 years (1957-1977). During this period more giant pandas found their way to the Western World--Chi-Chi at the London Zoo, An-An at the Moscow Zoo, Ying-Ying and Pe-Pe at the Mexican Zoo. Chia-Chia and Ching-Ching at the London Zoo, and of course, our own famous pandas, Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing at the National Zoo*.
