Preaching and catechesis in our local Church must foster such encounters, especially by explaining our love relaonship with Jesus as the purpose of the liturgy.

We must pray that we are on fire with selfRsacrificing love. In the synod, we heard that there can be no bystanders in the work of unleashing the Gospel… We have to get out of our comfort zone. We have to let ourselves be evangelized and changed.

We must today be united in praying for faith. … In the synod, we heard that the Church in the Archdiocese of Detroit is a new testament reality… That’s how we will connue the Book of Acts, by, in faith, calling on the Word of God to prophesy, as did Ezekiel, that the Spirit should come upon our dry bones and give them life.

R,7 (B,) E. R _, -G `3 M J A. L-J` by Sr. Barbara Rund, OP St. Hugo of the Hills Parish community remembers two members of the new Church building commiee who have died. Robert (Bob) E. Rambusch and Mario A. Locsin, who were instrumental in the liturgical design process of the new Church with Fr. Tony. On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, Bob Rambush died at the age of 93 in New York City. A few years ago, Mario Locsin died at the age of 64 in the Philippines. Their deaths recall our human condion and our belief as Catholics “that all the es of friendship and affecon do not unravel with death. … death is not the end, nor does it destroy the bonds that we forge in our lives” (OCF, Vigil for the Deceased, par. 71R72). It is fing that we remember them and their involvement in the building of the new Church, which began with the groundRbreaking on March 17, 1988. A er a year construcon, the Church was dedicated by Edmund Cardinal Szoka on Sunday, April 16, 1989. The last me Bob and Mario were present at St. Hugo was in 2009, for the parish celebraon of the 20th anniversary of the Church. On Monday, April 20, Bob and Mario spoke to a large gathering of parishioners Bob Rambusch, Fr. Tony, Mario Locsin about the design and funcon of the liturgical space, especially the elements and appointments (bapsmal font, altar, ambo, chair and tabernacle). They said that the design for the Church was determined by the strength and simplicity of the original Stone Chapel. The Church incorporates much of the old by using many of the same building materials, most especially the stone taken from the very same quarry in Wisconsin. For the past 28 years, we have been praying and worshiping in the Church. We look forward to April 16, 2019, when our parish will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the dedicaon of Church.
