Jim Bilot many other, activities of our daily lives are good and normal, we must always be ready for the coming of the Lord. If we do not keep our sights on the bigger picture, i.e., how our lives are tied integrally into the mystery of Christ, then we become victims of the norm. We will go on doing what we do because it is what we have always done, or not doing what we should be doing because we have become steeped in our sin; thus, we will drown. It's Gaudete (Rejoice) Sunday! Light the third Jesus warned us that the flood would come in the day of (rose-colored) candle on your Advent wreath. Noah, and so it did. Last Sunday, we heard from John the Baptist, who told phrase, "The Lord is coming." But beginning us to “prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his with Gaudete Sunday, the summary might be, paths.” Notice that John said to make straight “his” paths. "The Lord is near." This shift is marked by a lighter mood and When we put our lives into the context of our Creator, who gave us life, we learn our true identity. We do not follow a heightened sense of joyous anticipation. Liturgically, the - the paths of whatever comes along. We stop, reflect and colors lighten as well. The priest usually wears rose colored ask ourselves: who am I and what am I doing to give glory vestments, a hue seen only on Gaudete Sunday and Laetare and honor to God? Is the hectic pace I am engaged in Sunday. In times when the focus of our anticipation is often show the path of love, goodness and joy...the same joy on the negative and fearful, this celebration is a reminder that that comes with the preparation of the birth of a child? Or, God who loves us is still in charge and that we await his is what I am doing preparing my path for .... coming not with fear, but with tremendous joy. We do not want to drown in the floods of secular expectations. Rather, we need to be flooded with the Grace of God to receive an awesome gift: the love of Christ. To make straight his path, the way of the Lord, it is important that we look at the amount of time we spend on our spiritual life (in prayer, reflection, spiritual reading, devotions – like the rosary, Mass, etc.), and is it equal to or greater than the time we spend on the things of this world? Fr. John Kopson’s Commentary Our Lady of Guadalupe, Pray for us! Spiritual Game Plan… From Advent To Beyond! A great sign In an excellent document entitled “Into appeared in the sky, a the Breach”, Thomas Olmsted woman clothed with speaks about the necessity of developing the sun, with the moon and living out a genuinely Catholic life. We can think of the Bishop’s advice under her feet, and on regarding this as a “game plan”. The goal her head a crown of of any game plan is victory. And the goal of the Christian life twelve stars. is eternity with God in Heaven! Here is the game plan to accomplish this ultimate goal:

Pray every day: St Ambrose once said, “Neglect of prayer results in indifference to prayer.” Bishop Olmsted reminds us that, “Until you realize that prayer is the most important thing in life, you will never have time for prayer” (Into the Breach, Pg. 11). Here are some Divine Child

ways to pray every day: Thank God when you first wake up in the morning. Around lunch time pray the Men’s Group Meeting Angelus. Make sure you say grace before all meals whether you are in public or not. Please join us on Examine your conscience before going to sleep: Just take a Thursday, December 15 at 7:00PM few minutes quietly to review your day before going to Elementary School Multi-Purpose Room bed. Think of your blessings and sins. Thank God and All men are welcome! tell Him that you are sorry by making an Act of Contrition. Go to Mass: Never miss a Sunday Mass again for the rest of your life. Jesus loves you so much that He wants to hang out with you! Come and visit the Lord who loves you at Mass. Read the Bible: St. Jerome says that, “Ignorance of the Sacred Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.” Get to EARLY BULLETIN really know Jesus by reading the Bible. After you examine your conscience, please muster enough courage (and enough love of Jesus) to go to confession. He is there right now waiting for you to come and confess your sins to Him. He desperately wants to forgive you! Go to confession monthly. RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS Make Catholic friends: Many of our friends are a gift from God.
