The area stretches from Alvdal, Tynset, Tolga and Os municipalities in the county of Hedmark to Holtålen and Røros municipalities in the county of Sør-Trøndelag. The area offers great opportunities for mountain walks, horseback riding, horse- and sled rides, mushroom- and berry picking, hunting and fishing. SOUTHERN SAMI The Røros Region has a thriving Sami population that has lived and worked with reindeer farming from before the time of the copper company. WINTER ACTIVITIES SKIING AND KITE BOARDING In our region the ski trails meander through forests, down steep mountain slopes and across the wide open expanses. You will find hundreds of kilometers of trails maintained by one of the many ski clubs dotted around the region. If you would rather create your own tracks in the newly fallen powder snow, the deep forests and mountain ranges are waiting! The area offers downhill resorts in Os, Ålen and Funäsdalen with slopes for both beginners and more experienced riders. The landscape and soil high up in the mountains and the cold winter climate allow the mushrooms, berries, herbs and vegetables to grow slowly under sunlit days and nights during the summer. The slow growth allows the ingredients to develop a unique clean taste. Mushrooms, berries, herbs and vegetables all have their unique taste, the same clean taste that can be found in the meat from the animals that graze free in the mountain pastures and moss covered forests as well as the fish that live in the cold mountain waters.
