  • Tim Russell's 50 Recommended London Restaurants
Tim Russell’s 50 recommended London restaurants I have had the opportunity of doing a few restaurant reviews over the years and I am often asked for recommendations in London especially from friends outside town. Anyway, with a natural bias to West London where I live, I thought it might be fun to put a list of my favourite restaurants onto my website in case it assists you in choosing a night out in town. So here it is and any feedback more than welcome. The restaurants have been set out in alphabetical order and split between the more expensive and the less expensive although I accept most are for special occasions. Bold type means it’s a particular favourite (around 5 in each section) and P, means reasonable parking after 6.30pm. Some recent 2014 changes e.g. Langan's Brasserie, The Ivy, Petrus and Gordon Ramsay are out while Shanghai Blues and Clos Maggiore are in. All very subjective of course so, as they say, don’t blame the juggler if you disagree with any recommendations. ££ 1 Assaggi – 39 Chepstow Place, W2, tel 7792 5501. One of the most difficult Italian restaurants to get into in London because it doesn’t seat many people. It is very informal but the service is very friendly and the food is quite excellent (from my favourite Pecorino starter to the sea bass) in this Bayswater Italian above a pub. Menu in Italian! Specials always good. Great for lunch and easier to get in then. Their one table for 6 very sought after.

  • Chelsea's Oldest Pub Is Set to Reopen Its Doors
CHELSEA’S OLDEST PUB IS SET TO REOPEN ITS DOORS The Cross Keys pub undergoes a major refurbishment with fuse design+build project managing the fit out programme to unveil a new look for Chelsea’s oldest pub Nestled in London’s fashionable Chelsea, The Cross Keys, a 300 year-old pub that has served patrons from Dylan Thomas and Agatha Christie to Bob Marley and the Rolling Stones, is set to reopen early next year after a campaign by residents to keep their local pub out of the hands of developers and remain an integral part of their community. Local publicans, Mark Dyer and Eamonn Manson, the team behind Fulham’s renowned pubs, The Sands End and The Brown Cow, have now added the historical Cross Keys to their award-winning portfolio of gastropubs. The new owners have appointed fuse design+build to project manage the complete refurbishment and ensure the build project meets their design and performance specification using their signature style. They aim to restore the historic pub by the river to its former glory and combine a contemporary, chic antique look and rustic charm that is synonymous with their other highly successful pubs. “We want to maintain the magic of The Cross Keys,” says Manson, Co-founder of DM Group and head of design, “from the cozy old fireplace to the natural light of the back atrium, but recharge it with a contemporary look.” The new Cross Keys will feature an extensive range of real ales along with British fare- a top to tail menu that will include enticing pub classics as well as delicious signature dishes from executive chef, Oliver Marlowe, of Chez Bruce and The Sands End fame.

There are some recent 2016 changes e.g. Club Gascon (I have not been there for ever), Langan’s Brasserie (tired), The Ivy (pretentious), Petrus (expensive and pretentious), Enoteca Turi (moved from Putney) Shanghai Blues (my favourite restaurant in Holborn has closed sadly) are out. So is Zucca though still a good Italian I just don’t really travel to Bermondsey anymore and a few other departures but let’s focus on the/my newcomers. Assaggi is hardly a new comer but has reopened which is great news and I have added Clos Maggiore and Koffmans (French to the fore) are in along with three locals for me. The excellent Italian L’Amorosa, Saigon Saigon, Vietnamese of course and the amazing Hedone which is just food heaven.

Anyway, with a natural bias to West London where I live, I thought it might be fun to put a list of my 50 favourite London restaurants onto my website in case it assists you in choosing a lunch or night out in town. Some sad recent departures in these covid times such as Le Caprice and The Ledbury ( both exceptional over the years ) but in the difficult world of today London is now one of the world’s top cities to dine out in . Some wonderful experiences and a fun if difficult task to name a top 50 but here it is . The restaurants have been set out in alphabetical order and split between the more expensive and the less expensive 25 in each and 5 in each in bold to highlight my personal favourites ) I do accept many are for special occasions. All very subjective of course so, as they say, don’t blame the juggler if you disagree with any recommendations. But hope you do enjoy some of these experiences. ££ 1 Angler 3 South Place, EC2. tel 32151260. Tim Russell’s 50 plus recommended London restaurants I have had the opportunity of writing a few restaurant reviews over the years and I am often asked for recommendations in London especially from friends outside town. Anyway, with a natural bias to West London where I live, I thought it might be fun to put a list of my 50 or so of my favourite London restaurants onto my website in case it assists you in choosing a lunch or night out in town. A difficult task in this great city full of wonderful restaurants. Which is why the list creeps towards 60 names. Anyway, here it is. The restaurants have been set out in alphabetical order and split between the more expensive and the less expensive although I accept many are for special occasions. Bold type means it’s one of my top 10 and P, means reasonable parking after 6.30pm. Bold type named restaurants within other reviews means they are elsewhere on my list. There are some fairly recent changes. Departures include Club Gascon (I have not been there for what seems like forever), Langan’s Brasserie (tired), The Ivy (not a patch on Le Caprice and well done for the franchises around town but it’s not the same), Petrus (expensive and pretentious), Enoteca Turi (moved from Putney), Shanghai Blues (my favourite restaurant in Holborn has closed sadly), San Remo in Barnes (closed after 27 years then reopened but new owners and not the same ) and Gaucho (I liked the one on the river at Richmond but the company went into administration sadly) are all out.
