IWM Digital Resource for Volunteers An Interactive Qualifying Project Submitted to the Faculty of the WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Science by: Linda Baker Shintaro Clanton Andrew Gregory Rachel Plante Project advisors: VJ Manzo Jianyu Liang June 23, 2016 This report represents the work of one or more WPI undergraduate students submitted to the faculty as evidence of completion of a degree requirement. WPI routinely publishes these reports on its web site without editorial or peer review. ABSTRACT The Interaction Volunteers at Imperial War Museums London engage with visitors in the exhibits and discuss about certain artifacts. The communication of information among the Interaction Volunteer team, however, has been inefficient as the system relied on paper resources. Our IQP team surveyed volunteers and conducted a focus group to gather input about layout and features for a potential digital resource which the Interaction Volunteers could use in management of artifactual content and digital forms. This information was then used to design a website utilizing a content management system in order to make the communication of information more simple and efficient for the Interaction Volunteer team. ii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Our team would like to thank our advisors, Professors V.J. Manzo and Jianyu Liang, for their continued support and guidance in completing this project. We would especially like to thank Mr. Grant Rogers, Informal Learning and Engagement Manager at Imperial War Museums London, for sponsoring and providing insight for our project and for sharing his enthusiasm for the museum. In addition, we would like to extend our gratitude to the Learning and Engagement Department and Digital Design Department at Imperial War Museums London, for providing us the resources we needed to complete our project, and to the Volunteer Program at Imperial War Museums London for their advice and participation in our project.

During this period, jazz was presented in a variety of ways in different venues, on four of which I focus: New Orleans-style jazz commonly performed for the same audiences in Rhythm Clubs and in concert halls (as shown by George Webb’s Dixielanders at the Red Barn public house and the King’s Hall); clubs hosting different styles of jazz on different nights of the week that brought in different audiences (such as the 100 Club on Oxford Street); clubs with a fixed stylistic ideology that changed venue, taking a regular fan base and musicians to different locations (such as Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club); and jazz in theatres (such as the Little Theatre Club and Mike West- brook’s compositions for performance in the Mermaid Theatre).

Architectural transformations on the Market Square in Krakow A systematic visual catalogue Jean-Yves BLAISE Iwona DUDEK Different faces of one ‘idea’ Section three, presents a selection of analogous examples (European public use and commercial buildings) so as to help the reader weigh to which extent the layout of Krakow’s marketplace, as well as its architectures, can be related to other sites. Market Square in Krakow is paradoxically at the same time a typical example of medieval marketplace and a unique site. But the frontline between what is common and what is unique can be seen as “somewhat fuzzy”. Among these examples readers should observe a number of unexpected similarities, as well as sharp contrasts in terms of form, usage and layout of buildings.

Conservation area statement Hampstead 2 Conservation & Urban Design Team London Borough of Camden Environment Department Town Hall Extension Argyle Street London WC1H 8ND Telephone: 020 7974 1944 Produced by Camden Design & Print END200/01 4279 Tel: 020 7974 1985 page 3 Location page 8 History page 12 Character page 46 Audit page 57 Current Issues page 59 Guidelines page 68 Road Index HAMPSTEAD Conservation Area Statement The aim of this Statement is to provide a clear indication of the Council’s approach to the preservation and enhancement of the Hampstead Conservation Area. The statement is for the use of local residents, community groups, businesses, property owners, architects and developers as an aid to the formulation and design of development proposals and change in the area. The statement will be used by the Council in the assessment of all development proposals. Camden has a duty under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 to designate as conservation areas any “areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance.” Designation provides the basis for policies designed to preserve or enhance the special interest of such an area. Designation also introduces a general control over the demolition of unlisted buildings. The Council’s policies and guidance for Conservation Areas are contained in the Unitary Development Plan (UDP) and Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG). This Statement is part of SPG and gives additional detailed guidance in support of UDP policies. The Statement describes the character of the area, provides an outline of the key issues and identifies development pressures which are currently a cause of concern.
