NECROLOGY JEWISH CEMETERY AUGSBURG AT HAUNSTETTER STRASSE (1867-1940) VERSION 03 Version 03 contains now a lot of more additional family history details compared to previous versions For family name index + further cemetery details check www.alemannia-judaica.de/augsburg_friedhof.htm Adult death cases were noted from Jewish vital records Augsburg - volume 3 (State Archive Augsburg) This necrology was originally compiled by the historic Jewish Community of Augsburg from 1867 (foundation of Augsburg Jewish cemetery at Haunstetter Strasse) until 1940 (end of Jewish Community) and also corresponds to the grave sites, as numbers of this necrology are the same as on gravestone backs. Family history details were compiled in 2009 - 2011 by Rolf Hofmann ( [email protected] ) together with Prof Dr Herbert Immenkoetter and in close cooperation with Yehuda Schenef, who has created a special grave list of this cemetery, based on the actually still legible grave inscriptions. This list now has also become part of our website. Of great help was Gernot Roemer’s book “An meine Gemeinde in der Zerstreuung” (circular letters by Augsburg Rabbi Ernst Jacob 1941-1949) with family history details which otherwise we would not have been able to gather. MAIN SOURCES = Family history details basically were gathered from Jewish vital records of Bavarian Swabia as holdings of State Archive Augsburg. Other sources are mentioned in brackets as AAZ = Augsburger Abendzeitung (newspaper obit), ANN = Augsburger Neueste Nachrichten (newspaper obit), ANC = Ancestry.Com (genealogical website), ATJ = Aron Taenzer - Geschichte der Juden in Jebenhausen und Goeppingen, ATH = Aron Taenzer - Juden in Hohenems, BGMJ = Biographisches Gedenkbuch der Muenchner Juden, BIG = Bayerische Israelitische Gemeindezeitung , BLUME = private archive of Gisela Naomi Blume in Fuerth, FAUG = Familienbogen Augsburg (Stadtarchiv), CENSUS = Census of 1939 by Bundesarchiv (German State Archive), GBA = Gedenkbuch Bundesarchiv, GN = Gedenkbuch für die Nuernberger Opfer der Shoah, GUN = Stadtarchiv Gunzenhausen, HAR = Harburg Project Archive , HDBG = Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte (Projekt Spurensuche des Maria-Theresia-Gymnasiums in Augsburg), HES = Joachim Hahn - Juedisches Leben in Esslingen, HPC = Joachim Hahn - documentation of Jewish cemetery in Cannstatt, HPR = Joachim Hahn - documentation of Jewish part of Prag Cemetery in Stuttgart, HUT = Nathanja Huettenmeister, ISR + village = Israelitische Standesregister (Jewish vital records from holdings of Main State Archive Stuttgart), JG = Jewish Genealogy ( www.jewishgen.org ), JGBS = Jewish Genealogy in Bavarian Swabia ( www.jgbs.org ), LPH = Jüdischer Friedhof Laupheim - documentation by Nathanja Huettenmeister -, NAZ = Neue Augsburger Zeitung (newspaper obit), OFC = Obermayer family chart (unpublished), RL = Rick Landman’s list on Augsburg Shoah victims, ROM = Gernot Roemer - WIK = Wikipedia. BASIC REMARK = This list is inevitably incomplete, it contains errors and does not cover all death cases of Augsburg Jewish families between the opening of the Augsburg Jewish cemetery (1867) and the liquidation of the Jewish community (ca 1940) because of limited available resources. However there is a wealth of information on many Jewish families who then had lived in Augsburg - valuable for descendants, historians as well as genealogists. Obviously there were a number of interments of people who had not died in Augsburg, which is why they were not recorded at Augsburg registry offices. In those cases family history details are difficult to determine - often it is impossible. A valuable source would have been the doctoral thesis of Augsburg historian and teacher Hans Hirsch on the History of Jews in Augsburg, containing widespread family history research results, but so far this doctoral thesis has not yet been published and so was not available for our necrology. Besides this necrology there exists a grave list of Augsburg Jewish Cemetery at Haunstetter Strasse, compiled by Yehuda Schenef from still existing grave inscriptions. This grave list goes beyond 1940 and contains further burials of the 1940s and later up to present times, as this cemetery is still open for burials. Yehuda Schenef’s grave list gives exact grave positions and is published separately at Alemannia Judaica website SOUTHERN HALF records 001 - 015 are missing in copy of original microfilm - fitting entries as noted by Yehuda Schenef 11 Benjamin Haymann 13 Apr 1842 - 04 Mar 1869 he was not married born in Augsburg as son of Moritz Heymann + wife Mina nee Rosenbusch 12 Heinrich Veit Bachmann 15 Jun 1841 - 13 Mar 1869 businessman in Augsburg born in Pfersee as son of Veit Bachmann + wife Babette nee Herz married 22 Jun 1868 in Augsburg Sophie Buttenwieser 13 May 1846 - ?
