Plusieurs enjeux entrent en ligne de compte et influencent les décisions prises en ce qui concerne le destin de gares de train abandonnées. Cette étude tente d‘éclairer l‘impact de certains de ces enjeux dont : le ou les nouveaux usages qui seront octroyés à la gare dans sa nouvelle «vie », l‘architecture de la gare elle-même et la façon dont elle sera traitée ou modifiée, l‘espace de la gare ainsi que sa transformation et finalement l‘appropriation de cet espace par le citoyen. L‘approche qualitative est l‘approche méthodologique choisie. La recherche combine la méthodologie d‘analyse de contenu et l‘étude de cas. Le cas de la gare de Westmount est examiné en comparaison avec le cas de la gare d‘Orsay transformée en Musée d‘Orsay. -

Mitchell (Department of Anthropology) Departmental Member This thesis explores the practices, motivations, and sensorial experiences of Montreal’s metro buskers. By examining the lived experiences of ‘street’ performers in the stations and connecting passageways of Montreal’s underground transit system, I consider what it ‘means’ to be a metro busker from the perspective of the performers. Informed by my ethnographic fieldwork among metro buskers, I detail their performance practices, ‘staging’ strategies, uses of technology, bodily dispositions, and subjective perceptions in relation to the public, each other and the spaces of performance. In the process, I make visible—and audible—the variable and improvisational nature of busking practices, and how these are constituted in relation to the physical features of the performance sites. More broadly, I explore the co-productive relations between body and space, the sensorial experiences and spatial practices of everyday urban life, and the potential for moments of micro-social encounter and appropriations of spaces that are not designed to foster conviviality and creative engagement. -

Hard by Bill’s Fish market in Digby, Nova Scotia, CPR RDC-1 9059 is backing down to Digby Wharf on July 8, 1969, to exchange passengers connecting with the SS Princess of Acadia. The vessel is operating on the Canadian Pacific‘s Bay of Fundy ferry service between Saint John, New Brunswick and Digby, Nova Scotia. Dayliner 9059 was one of two RDC-1s purchased in 1956 especially for service on CP’s Dominion Atlantic Railway. Both 9059 and sister 9058 carried the Dominion Atlantic name on their tuscan red letterboards for years until the advent of CP Rail and “action” red.
