Stadiony w całej Polsce odwiedziło łącznie 2,7 miliona kibiców, a aż piętnastu piłkarzy naszej ligi zostało powołanych na Euro 2016 i stanowiło o sile swoich reprezentacji narodowych. To pokazuje jak dynamicznie rozwija się polska piłka. Ten ogromny potencjał dostrzegany jest już nie tylko na boisku, ale także przez Partnerów biznesowych. Media Release World Leagues Forum Schützengasse 4 8001 Zürich Switzerland The World Leagues Forum: “Domestic leagues unanimously reject the super league concept but also request better representation in the football governance” Zurich, Switzerland – 23 April 2021 – Following the recent events on the European breakaway league, the board of the World Leagues Forum (WLF), the association which represents professional football leagues on a world level met today. This board includes the following leagues: Premier League (England), Ligue de Football Professionnel (France), DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga (Germany), Lega Serie A (Italy), Russian Premier League (Russia), LaLiga (Spain), Premier League Soccer (South Africa), LigaPro (Ecuador), Major League Soccer (USA), Liga MX (Mexico), J.League (Japan) and Professional Saudi League (Saudi Arabia). The WLF issues the following statement: “The World Leagues Forum not only rejects the concept of the super league, but also requests better representation of the leagues in football governance. This is the consequence of the lessons which can be drawn from this week’s events: One: The European super league project reflected the money-driven vision a small group of already super rich clubs. This vision has been rejected by everyone in football and outside football. But most importantly, it has been rejected by the fans. It has shown that sport values such as sporting merit and solidarity must always prevail. Two: Any international competition where some clubs would have a permanent right to play without qualifying from domestic leagues is a terrible idea. Not only it disregards the values of sport, but it neglects the importance of domestic competitions from an historical, from an economic, and from a fan perspective.

Professional sport could not function without sponsors’ money. Taking into account the fact that football is the most popular sport discipline in Poland as well as in the whole world, it is more than possible to discover strong relationships between financial markets and sport. Additionally, many authors pay attention on emotional relationships between football fans and clubs. Naturally, it is not so easy to confirm that the character of these relationships has an impact on fluctuations of stock prices, but the direction of research seems to be proper. The main goal of this article is to prove the existence of relationships between rates of return of companies involved in sport sponsoring and sport results of spon- sored clubs and that they are statistically significant. That tendency can be observed regardless a season in their calendars. Analyses of the specialistic literature reveal that authors generally have concentrated on the results of communication performed in social media, while constant attention should be put on observation of trends and performance of clubs in that area. The paper presents results of the research conducted by the authors concerning social media performance (on Facebook mainly) of Polish football clubs, that play in the Ekstraklasa (the highest league in Polish football), during the off-season. The research were conducted in January 2020, what enabled verification of the main hypothesis that assumed that during the off-season periods, the football clubs did not reduce intensiveness of their communication realised via social media with different groups of their stakeholders. In the paper some statistic tools were used to analyse basic variabilities describing marketing efforts of the clubs.

  • Predictive Efficacy of a New Association Football League Format in Polish Ekstraklasa
Predictive Efficacy of a New Association Football League Format in Polish Ekstraklasa Jan Lasek1 and Marek Gagolewski2;3 1 Interdisciplinary PhD Studies Program, Institute of Computer Science, Polish Academy of Sciences, Jana Kazimierza 5, 01-248 Warsaw, Poland, [email protected] 2 Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, Newelska 6, 01-447 Warsaw, Poland, [email protected] 3 Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science, Warsaw University of Technology, Koszykowa 75, 00-662 Warsaw, Poland Abstract. In this study we investigate the recently introduced compe- tition format for the top association football division in Poland (similar to one used in, e.g., Belgium and Kazakhstan). We compare it to the double round-robin tournament which is the most prevalent league for- mat among European leagues. In a simulation study we show that the new league format has better ability to determine the strongest competi- tor as the winner of a league as well as it yields higher correlation with theoretical latent teams' strength parameters in the model. Keywords: Ekstraklasa, league format, predictive efficacy, round-robin tournament, simulation, football team ratings, tournament design. 1 Introduction The issue of tournament design has several various dimensions. On one hand, one would like to design a competition so as to maximise the probability that the best team overall wins. On the other hand, the uncertainty of the outcome con- tributes to the excitement accompanying sport contests. Nothing is determined in advance and this very fact makes the competition interesting. Additionally, we are often facing time and space limitations that impose a set of constraints on both the schedule of the contest and the number of games that can be played.

No. 190 MAY/JUNE 2020 OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE UNION OF EUROPEAN FOOTBALL ASSOCIATIONS 2m No.190 • May/June 2020 No.190 STAY SAFE EDITORIAL Aleksander Čeferin UEFA President FOOTBALL WAITS… AND SHOWS ITS BEATING HEART t is only a matter of weeks since European football was looking forward with great anticipation to an exciting climax to the UEFA and domestic competition seasons, as well as UEFA EURO 2020, a unique tournament Ibridging 12 countries and celebrating the 60th anniversary of the continent’s premium men’s national team competition. Since then, life in Europe and beyond has been turned on its head by the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus. Football has been brought to a halt at both European and national levels. UEFA has been forced to postpone all its club and national team competitions until further notice, while moving EURO 2020 to the summer of 2021 and UEFA Women’s EURO 2021 to the following year. UEFA reacted swiftly in making these decisions, within a full and frank consultation process not only with its 55 member associations, but also with fellow football stakeholders – clubs, leagues and players’ unions. It was the correct decision at the right time, based on common sense, in compliance with national measures and World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. The unprecedented circumstances indeed made it impossible for any sport to take place. I have been extremely proud of how UEFA and its stakeholders have acted together in a spirit of full and honest cooperation at this time. This spirit remains truly alive within a situation that is in a state of constant evolution.
