A.7 ORCHESTRE DE LA SUISSE ROMANDE Director Titular: JONATHAN NOTT SERIE ARRIAGA 2016.2017 Auditorio Nacional Medio colaborador de Música A.7 ORCHESTRE DE LA SUISSE ROMANDE Fue fundada, en 1918, por Ernest Ansermet, que fue su Director hasta 1967. Está formada por 112 músicos permanentes. Sus actividades incluyen una serie de conciertos de abono, en Ginebra y Lausana, los conciertos sinfónicos oficiales de la ciudad de Ginebra, el Concierto Benéfico Anual de las Naciones Unidas y representaciones de ópera en el Grand Théâtre de Ginebra. Jonathan Nott ocupa el puesto de Director Titular, a partir de la temporada 2016-2017. Su Principal Director Invitado es el japonés Kazuki Yamada. Desde sus inicios y bajo el liderazgo de su fundador y de sus sucesores Paul Kletzki (1967-1970), Wolfgang Sawallisch (1970-1980), Horst Stein (1980-1985), Armin Jordan (1985-1997), Fabio Luisi (1997-2002), Pinchas Steinberg (2002- 2005), Marek Janowski (2005-2012) y Neeme Järvi (2012-2015), la orquesta ha contribuido activamente a la historia de la música a través del apoyo a compositores contemporáneos. Una de sus misiones más importantes es el apoyo a nueva música orquestal, especialmente de compositores suizos. Desde sus comienzos y en colaboración con la Televisión Suiza-Francesa sus conciertos llegan a un público de millones de personas en todo el mundo. Gracias a su estrecho trabajo con Decca, se realizaron legendarias grabaciones. El resto de los registros, para unos doce sellos diferentes, han recibido numerosos premios. Más recientemente, la orquesta ha desarrollado una privilegiada colaboración con PentaTone. Sus giras internacionales la han llevado a actuar en las principales salas de concierto de Europa (Berlín, Londres, Viena, Salzburgo, París, Madrid, Barcelona, Budapest y Ámsterdam), Asia (Tokio, Seúl, Beijing), así como en América (Boston, Nueva York, San Francisco, Washington, São Paulo, Buenos Aires y Montevideo). -

REBECCA SAUNDERS COMPOSER IN RESIDENCE. 15TH EDITION 29.08. – 09.09.2018 KLANGSPUREN INTERNATIONAL ENSEMBLE MODERN ACADEMY 2018 KLANGSPUREN SCHWAZ is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2018. The annual Tyrolean festival of contemporary music provides a stage for performances, encounters, and for the exploration and exchange of new musical ideas. With a different thematic focus each year, KLANGSPUREN aims to present a survey of the fascinating, diverse panorama that the music of our time boasts. KLANGSPUREN values open discourse, participation, and partnership and actively seeks encounters with locals as well as visitors from abroad. The entire beautiful region of Tyrol unfolds as the festival’s playground, where the most cutting-edge and modern forms of music as well as many young composers and musicians are presented. On the occasion of its own milestone anniversary – among other anniversaries that KLANGSPUREN SCHWAZ 2018 will be celebrating this year – the 25th edition of the festival has chosen the motto „Festivities. Places.“ (in German: „Feste. Orte.“). The program emphasizes projects and works that focus on aspects of celebrations, festivities, rituals, and events and have a specific reference to place and situation. KLANGSPUREN INTERNATIONAL ENSEMBLE MODERN ACADEMY is celebrating its 15th anniversary. The Academy is an offshoot of the renowned International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) in Frankfurt and was founded in the same year as IEMA, in 2003. The Academy is central to KLANGSPUREN and has developed into one of the most successful projects of the Tyrolean festival for new music. The high standards of the Academy are vouched for by prominent figures who have acted as Composers in Residence: György Kurtág, Helmut Lachenmann, Steve Reich, Benedict Mason, Michael Gielen, Wolfgang Rihm, Martin Matalon, Johannes Maria Staud, Heinz Holliger, George Benjamin, Unsuk Chin, Hans Zender, Hans Abrahamsen, Wolfgang Mitterer, Beat Furrer, Enno Poppe, and most recently in 2017, Sofia Gubaidulina. -

In 2018, recording of Symphony No.10 by Mahler and Symphony No.9 by Bruckner won the Best Recording of the 31th Music Pen Club Music Award. After studying music at the University of Cambridge, singing and flute at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and conducting in London, he began his career at the opera houses in Mrankfurt and Wiesbaden where he conducted all major works of the repertoire including Wagner’s complete Ring cycle. The year 1997 marked the beginning of a special relationship with Switzerland: as principal conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra he took an active part in the inaugural period of the new KKL where he also performed with the Ensemble Intercontemporain founded by Pierre Boulez, and of which he was the music director from 2000 to 2003. His sixteen years as principal conductor of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra from 2000 until 2016 were filled with varied and enriching experiences: he created artist-in-residence programmes, went on several international tours with the orchestra, he received a Midem Award in 2010 for his recording of Mahler’s Ninth Symphony, and he launched the Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition from which have emerged some of today’s world famous conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel and Lahav Shani. -

Sobald sich die Frage nach dem Ver- hältnis des Einzelnen zur Gesellschaft stellt, wird es spannend, dramatisch, vielleicht auch versöhnlich. Manchmal entsteht auch etwas völlig Neues – zum Beispiel, wenn in Beat Furrers »Phaos« Solomotive zu üppigen Klangkomplexen werden, die quirlig und vielfältig, unterbrochen von Pausen, sich in wellenartiges Pulsieren verwandeln, das sich in Wiederholun- gen zu einer gleißenden Woge steigert. Phaos kommt aus dem Griechischen und steht für Licht – in Beat Furrers Lesart wird daraus eine Klangstudie über phosphoreszierende Lichtpartikel und eine Metapher für drohende Katastrophen. Márton Illés lädt die Ausnahmegeigerin Patricia Kopatchinskaja in »Vont-tér« zu einem komplexen Dialog mit dem WDR Sinfonie- orchester und einer gemeinsamen Suche nach neuen instrumen- talen Klängen, Spieltechniken und Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten ein. Im Wechselspiel mit dem Orchester agiert die Sologeige im offe- nen Klangraum, entfernt sich von spieltechnischen Konventionen und findet eigene Spielmöglichkeiten in Márton Illés’ originärer Musiksprache. -

Diana Soh Composer Described as “a composer to follow” (France Musique), Diana Soh is one of today’s most exciting young artists. A multi- disciplinary Singaporean composer based in Paris, she has written for a wide range of instrumentation from chamber music, to orchestra, dance, film, choral and vocal music, and multi-media site-specific works. Diana’s musical interest is directed at exploring performance interactivity as well as obtaining specific sound colours from the intimate collaboration with performers. Known for integrating the use of technology and interested in theatre, she often surprises her audiences and finds ways to address social issues of our times in her work and “composes the impossible” (Concert Classic). Notable highlights include A is for Aiyah with soprano Elise Chauvin as the soloist, which was premiered in Singapore by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (2018) as well as her string quartet sssh by the Mettis Quartet at the Aix en Provence Festival (2018). Her upcoming seasons see her venturing into the music theatre world with 2 operas: Façon Tragique de Tuer une Femme which will be premiered in 2023, and The Carmen Case the season after. Her adventure in vocal writing continues with a mono-drama for Opera de Lyon and a commission from the Maîtrise de Radio France, Parisce and a solo voice piece titled La Ville-Zizi. In addition, of smaller things will be presented in Austria by Schallfeld Ensemble in 2021 and Of the spaces between by Ensemble Æquilibrium in Singapore in 2022. Since establishing herself in Paris, Diana was Composer-in-Residence for 2 years (2012 / 2013) at the National Centre for Creation - La Muse en Circuit, concluded with a one-hour monographic concert of her works during the 2013 Festival Extension. -

Ett porträtt av Orchestre de la Suisse Romande Orchestre de la Suisse Romande – One Century of Music Pentatone PTC5186791 [5 CD] Orchestre de la Suisse Romande bildades 1918 där syftet var att ge den fransktalande populationen i Schweiz en orkester som motpol till den dominerande tysktalande delen av landet. Den legendariske dirigenten Ernest Ansermet var grundaren av orkestern och hans kamp för att få orkestern att överleva både politiskt motstånd men även 1930-talets ekonomiska depression gjorde att han hade alla odds emot sig. På sikt lyckades orkestern att bli så etablerad som tanken var och orkestern fungerar väl än idag. I en ny box från Pentatone på 5 cd får vi höra musik framförd av orkesterns samtliga chefdirigenter. Ansermet var chef nästan 50 år mellan åren 1918–1967 och därefter har orkestern letts av följande dirigenter under betydligt kortare perioder: Paul Kletzki, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Horst Stein, Armin Jordan, Fabio Luisi, Pinchas Steinberg, Marek Janowski, Neeme Järvi och Jonathan Nott (orkesterns nuvarande chefsdirigent). Många välkända maestror har därmed haft ansvaret för orkestern genom åren men ingen så länge som grundaren själv. Denna box innehåller 19 olika verk vilket visar på den mångsidighet som finns hos orkestern. Den första skivan ägnas åt fransk musik, den andra åt tyska tonsättare, nr. 3 fokuserar på verk från 1900-talet och nr. 4 innehåller rysk musik. Den sista, den femte, ägnas åt en historisk inspelning från januari 1943, där Ansermet dirigerar Gustave Dorets ”Les Armaillis”, en dramatisk legend för solister, kör och orkester. Det något daterade ljudet ger en viss begränsning för att få en helt rättvis bild av både verk och framförande. -

And it is precisely in the last three years that Vito has achieved even greater success, recently being capped off with the prestigious Prešeren Fund Prize in 2014, as well as a series of performances of his compositions at a diverse range of international music venues. Vito’s close collaboration with composers and performers of various stylistic orientations was an additional impetus for us to prepare the Slowind Festival under the leadership of a Slovenian artistic director for the first time! This autumn, we will put ourselves at the mercy of the vortex of time and again celebrate to some extent. On this occasion, we will mark the th th 90 birthday of Pierre Boulez as well as the 80 birthday of Helmut Lachenmann and Georg Katzer. In addition to works by these distinguished th composers, the 17 Slowind Festival will also present a range of prominent composers of our time, including Bruno Mantovani, Brice Pauset, Michael Pelzel, Heinz Holliger, Beat Furrer and Márton Illés, as well as Slovenian composers Larisa Vrhunc, Nina Šenk, Bojana Šaljić Podešva, Uroš Rojko, and Matej Bonin, and, of course, the festival’s artistic director Vito Žuraj. -
