Akordiyon Ve Benzeri Armonikaların Tarihsel Gelişimi SPRING 2018 VOLUME 17 AKORDİYON VE BENZERİ ARMONİKALARIN TARİHSEL GELİŞİMİ ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME Rauf KERİMOV1 Abstract A Study Of The Historical Development Of Accordion And Similar Harmonicas Harmonicas played an important role in attracting the broad masses to music and in learning different musical genres, in general, in the development of musical culture. This instruments are constructed on the basis of vibrating reed principle known from the most ancient times. Free reed instruments have been known in China for thousands of years, but the Western free reed instruments such as the mouth organ, accordion and harmonium were only invented and developed during the last two centuries. The key moment for the formation of the harmonic design was the invention at the beginning of the 19th century by the German master F. Bushmann a tuning instrument – aura. That is, the principle of sound production is created by vibration of metal reeds under airfow pressure. Unlike its predecessors, this instrument created the prior conditions for the development of harmonics, original sound colors and the invention of new instruments. The aim of this article is to provide an overview of the history of the origin and development of the accordion and its prototypes. The antecedents of the accordion will be analyzed and indicated that the frst known predecessor of the free reed instruments was not the sheng. There is no doubt that sheng, which has very old roots, indirectly infuenced the idea of harmonics. In this aspect, he can be considered as the pioneer of the accordion. But the appearance of harmonics as a new instrumental group is a serious scientifc discovery, a new and another principle of sound produce. Present article chronologically deals with the appearance and development of bellow-keyboard harmonicas. This article displays a general and systematic picture of the free reed–bellows–keyboard instruments and their musical and organologic developments. Bu çalışmalar sonucunda XVIII.-XIX. yüzyıllarda F. Kirshnik’in bibelharmonica, G.J. Vogler’in orchestrion, J. Maelsel’in panharmonica, L. Sauer’in piano organ, G.J. 1.Akordiyon 1.1.

  • The KNIGHT REVISION of HORNBOSTEL-SACHS: a New Look at Musical Instrument Classification
The KNIGHT REVISION of HORNBOSTEL-SACHS: a new look at musical instrument classification by Roderic C. Knight, Professor of Ethnomusicology Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, © 2015, Rev. 2017 Introduction The year 2015 marks the beginning of the second century for Hornbostel-Sachs, the venerable classification system for musical instruments, created by Erich M. von Hornbostel and Curt Sachs as Systematik der Musikinstrumente in 1914. In addition to pursuing their own interest in the subject, the authors were answering a need for museum scientists and musicologists to accurately identify musical instruments that were being brought to museums from around the globe. As a guiding principle for their classification, they focused on the mechanism by which an instrument sets the air in motion. The idea was not new. The Indian sage Bharata, working nearly 2000 years earlier, in compiling the knowledge of his era on dance, drama and music in the treatise Natyashastra, (ca. 200 C.E.) grouped musical instruments into four great classes, or vadya, based on this very idea: sushira, instruments you blow into; tata, instruments with strings to set the air in motion; avanaddha, instruments with membranes (i.e. drums), and ghana, instruments, usually of metal, that you strike. (This itemization and Bharata’s further discussion of the instruments is in Chapter 28 of the Natyashastra, first translated into English in 1961 by Manomohan Ghosh (Calcutta: The Asiatic Society, v.2). The immediate predecessor of the Systematik was a catalog for a newly-acquired collection at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels. The collection included a large number of instruments from India, and the curator, Victor-Charles Mahillon, familiar with the Indian four-part system, decided to apply it in preparing his catalog, published in 1880 (this is best documented by Nazir Jairazbhoy in Selected Reports in Ethnomusicology – see 1990 in the timeline below).

  • THE ACCORDION and the BOOK by Peter Thomas a Bit Over a Decade Ago, I Had the Idea to Make an Accordion Book
Peter and Donna Thomas. This real accordion book was made in the spring of 2016. The images and text were digitally printed on Peter’s handmade paper and then hand-colored by Donna. Peter: “I bought the Hohner accordion at the Cotati Accordion Festival. It was so beautiful, but no longer could be played, and thus a perfect candidate for becom- ing an accordion book.” THE ACCORDION AND THE BOOK by Peter Thomas A bit over a decade ago, I had the idea to make an accordion book. The book would use the accordion keyboards as covers and the bellows would be cut along the vertical ends, so that when pulled open, it would look like a real accordion book! I play the accordion and couldn’t pass up the opportunity presented by the visual pun, but the real purpose for making the book was to address a point of confusion among book artists: whether a folded paper book should be called an “accordion book” or a “con- certina book.” From playing both musical instruments, I knew that an accordion is rectangular and a concertina is hexagonal. So I made my first real accordion book in tandem with a book made out of a concertina to physically explain why, unless a book is hexagonal in shape, the correct term is accordion book. That first accordion book was followed by another, then another, creating a series. I don’t know exactly how many Donna and I have made so far. After one sells, we make another. As a series, the works are tied together by structure, text, and image.

  • Bayan + Flute: Arts @ Holy Trinity to Present Stasera Duo by Jarrett Hoffman
Bayan + flute: Arts @ Holy Trinity to present Stasera Duo by Jarrett Hoffman Recently, maybe just by coincidence, Akron’s Arts @ Holy Trinity series has been highlighting uncommon, intriguing pairings of instruments — ones that often represent different spheres of the musical world, but that overlap in some slight way. Last month brought clarinet and acoustic guitar, which share the same basic material: wood. And next up is flute and accordion, which derive their sound from the same place: air. More specifically, when Stephanie Jutt and Stanislav Venglevski of the Stasera Duo give a virtual concert on Sunday, March 21 at 4:00 pm (register here), the combination that will be on display is flute and bayan, a type of chromatic button accordion developed in Russia that’s known for its wide range and rich sound. Their program is diverse — it’s mostly made up of Venglevski’s original works, but also includes music by Astor Piazzolla, Isaac Albéniz, Alexander Tziganov, Raimundo Pineda, Claude Debussy, Henry Mancini, and J.S. Bach. It’s also very recent. The Duo was scheduled to record it on Monday at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. “It’s a place where we can safely get a few cameras in, and it’s going to be closed on Monday morning, so we’re going in at ten,” Jutt said by telephone last week. The choice of Madison, Wisconsin is also symbolic: it’s the ensemble’s birthplace. Jutt and Venglevski met there in 2019, when she invited him to be a guest artist in the Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society, a chamber music festival she co-founded and co-directs.

Rooskay Sveeta (Russian Suite) The choreography by Perfiloff is based on two folk tunes: a very slow lyric melody in minor is employed for the first half of the dance, followed by a lively tune "Polyanka" which brings the men on stage. Dvyenadtsat Razboyneekov (Twelve Thieves) Once upon a time in old Russia lived the "Twelve Thieves." Their leader, a brave man, was Ataman Koodiar. Many innocent people were sacrificed and much blood was shed until one day God awakened the conscience of Ataman Koodiar and changed his ways. A very old Monk in a Monastery named Pyetyereem, whose previous name was Koodiar, tells us this tale. Nad Palyamee (Over the Fields) The clean fields sparkle as the half moon, bird-like, flies over them sending sparks into the air. 101st Season Fifty-third Concert Ninth Annual Choice Series Karabeineek (The Peddler) This song describes a peddler selling his goods at the fair until he meets a dark-eyed beauty. The story, however, ends here. Tanyets (Dance) The melodies engaged for this dance are "Shtoto Zvon" and "Svyetyet Myesyats." Featured dancers are Kiril Uher and Maria Uher.
