We are copying this letter to the customary recipients. Incidents reported by the Army Spokesman Dec. 28 Kisufim Two Egyptian shepherds and their flocks were encoun- Gaza Strip tered by an Israeli Army patrol north of the settlement. When they refused to halt the patrol opened fire and the shepherds and their flocks fled across the D.L. into the Gaza Strip. Dec. 29 Be' eri An Egyptian force penetrated into Israeli territory Gaza Strip and took up positions on a hill near the settlement. At approx. 0215 hrs. an Israeli Army patrol opened fire and an exchange of fire bjegan, during vrtiich the Egyptians used L.M.G.s and light mortars. Eventually the Egyptians withdrew over the D.L. There were no Israeli casualties. Dec. 50 Kisufim Egyptian positions opened rifle and machine gun fire Gaza Strip on an Israeli unit patrolling the D.L. near the settlement. The patrol returned the fire and con- tinued on its way. Shortly afterwards the Egyptians opened fire on the patrol with 81 mm. mortar and a.tk jJStns. The exchange continued for about two hours. There were no Israeli casualties. Jan3r»l. Nitzana An Egyptian position directed automatic fire on an D.Z., Israeli military vehicle travelling within Israeli Egyptian territory in the area. Fire was returned and the "border vehicle continued on its way with no casualties. Jan. 1. Ein An Israeli patrol met Egyptian forces which had crossed Hashlosha into Israeli territory. The Egyptians were supported by automatic and mortar fire from Egyptian positions across the D.L. The exchange of fire lasted for several minutes and the Egyptian force fled. There were no Israeli casualties. Incidents reported unofficially by the Press Dec. 30 nr. Sde Two eivilian passengers in a jeep were killed and Boker, Negev the civilian driver wounded, in the afternoon when their vehicle was attacked by marauders on the Beersheba - Eilat road near the settlement. A gang of six or seven marauders, dressed in black, opened fire with rifles and automatic weapons. Tracks led to the Jordan border near Ein Hafira. UN observers accompanied by Israeli trackers. The patrol returned the fire and the exchange lasted for about half an hour. There were no Israeli casualties. January 6 At approximately 10.30 hrs. an Israeli weapons carrier 'Nitzana struck a mine in a wadi near Bef erotayirn. The front Demilitarized part of- the vehicle was damaged. There were no Zone, Egyptian casualties. Border. January 8 An Israeli Army patrol at about noon found tracks of Erey two men leading towards the G-aza Strip and followed Gaza Strip them. The trades led to two men who opened fire when the patrol approached. The patrol returned the fire and both men were killed* Reports of movements of road traffic were found- on them. We are copying this letter to the usual recipients, Incidents reported officially by the Army Spokesman:- January 9 Two Egyptian jet planes invaded Israeli air space in Coastal area the morning and flew over the coastal area* January 9 In the afternoon rifle fire was opened on an Israeli Mefalsim patrol north of the settlement. The patrol returned Gaza Strip the fire. There were no Israeli casualties. January 10 An Egyptian position opened automatic fire on an Israeli Nahal Oz police vehicle near the settlement. Fire was not returned G-aza Strip and there were no Israeli casualties* i'iring started at 12.30 p.m. and lasted for ten minutes. January 11 An Egyptian position opened fire, at 12.15 p.m., with Nitzana automatic weapons at an Israeli patrol travelling along Demilitarized the border in the D/Z» The patrol replied with heavy Zone, Egyptian fire and the exchange lasted for about 20 minutes. The Border. patrol continued on its way without casualties. January 11 An Egyptian position directed rifle fire at an ^sraeli Erez patrol travelling along the D/L near the settlement, Gaza Strip Pire was not returned and the patrol continued an its way. Half an hour later the Egyptian position again fired at the patrol, which returned the fire, the exchange lasting for about 10 minutes. January 12 An Egyptian position opened fire, in the afternoon, on Nitzana D/Z an Israeli plane flying over Israeli territory in the Egyptian Border demilitarized zone. The plane was not hit. January 12 An Egyptian position opened rifle and automatic fire Kisuf im Area at an Israeli patrol. The patrol suffered no Gaza Strip casualties and did not return the fire. January 13 An Israeli patrol in Israel territory near Be'eri in Be'eri the Western Negev was fired on. It did not return Gaza Strip the fire and there were no casualties, January 14 Jordan infiltrators, in Israel territory, about 1 p.m., Beit Govrin opened fire from a range of about 200 metres, on a Jordan Border group of hikers.
