The average speed of a qualifying lap is more than 250kph. The track’s long straights make huge cars on Michelin tyres demands on the tyres’ casings, even though the infamous Mulsanne Straight was split into three sections by two chicanes some 20 years ago. Grip levels vary depending on the surface type (busy trunk roads, Le Mans- Bugatti circuit) but tyre wear is relatively low. Indeed, having both raced and entered cars at La Sarthe, it is to my mind the biggest and best motor race in the world. This year, Lola is privileged to have six teams running Huntingdon-built chassis. It is extremely pleasing to see three each of our LMP1 and LMP2 cars here and with such a variety of engines, too.
