Succession Succession 25—27 March Judith Wright Arts Centre Two ensembles, one collective experience. A rare and transformative event, Succession sees our 27-strong Youth Ensemble creating and performing with the professional dancers of the company. Succession features four works created on the artists of ADC’s 2021 Youth Ensemble and culminates in a world premiere collaboration with the combined 32 artists of the company and Youth Ensemble all on stage together. Audiences will be treated to unique works created by Youth Ensemble Director, Riannon McLean, company artist, Lonii Garnons- Williams, and recently-retired company artists Bernhard Knauer and Jake McLarnon. Click Bernhard Knauer Click is a brief exploration of reality TV, social media and our relationship with technology in popular culture. How do we see each other in perfectly curated Instagram feeds or stories that we have the option to skip after half a second of passing judgement? As a bystander of a selfie or a spectator at a highly dramatised cooking competition, there is lots of comedy to be found in things that seem so normal to us. Loudness, colourfulness and drama are ways to stand out and be noticed, even if it means turning into a caricature of one self. Taking a moment and stepping back to question our behaviours and perhaps seeing the humour in our confident attempts to be liked and reassured by our friends and strangers alike is both healthy and sometimes necessary. Click isn’t a cynical look at our times but rather a celebration of the freedoms that we enjoy to express ourselves by looking at the amusing things that come with being able to be whoever we want to be. Watching somebody enjoying themselves, however ridiculous it might seem, is enjoyable in itself. Isn’t it often exactly that what we enjoy about watching somebody dance?
