His work, Fallen Angels ll Evan Jones Lecturer in Ballet harks back to an earlier work created for QUT and develops it for this new group of eager, young Rachel Mathews Study Area Coordinator, Lecturer in Dance Theory students. Kym Stevens Lecturer in Primary Education A/Prof. Cheryl Stock Post-graduate Studies Justin Rutzou is a welcome addition to our teaching team this year and has challenged our second years with their first contemporary work for performance at QUT. Relishing this experience, they have Sessional made good use of Justin’s impressive track record as a performer, teacher and rehearsal director. Kristen Bell Secondary Education John Clarke Jazz, Tap Equally impressive are the skills that Sarah-Jayne Howard brings to her new work for our graduating Harold Collins Ballet Technique students. Sarah-Jayne’s work calls on both acting and dance skills and these student’s endless thirst for Fiona Cullen Contemporary Technique new learning experiences has pushed their capabilities into new territory. I call her ‘our own’ as she is both a graduate of our institution, an Australian choreographer who Luis Pinto Funk has gained an international and national reputation from consistently producing quality work and is Justin Rutzou Contemporary Technique now the new Artistic Director of Expressions Dance Company. She trained at the Ann Roberts School of Dance in Townsville and completed an Associate Diploma in Performing Arts at QUT in Brisbane. She was a founding member of Expressions Dance Company and was offered her first choreographic commission by the company at the age of 18 and has since created at least eight works for the Company. Natalie has worked extensively throughout Australia, creating works for most of the country’s major classical and contemporary dance companies including; the Australian Ballet, West Australian Ballet, Queensland Ballet, Expressions Dance Company, Australian Dance Theatre, Dancenorth and Tasdance. Natalie was appointed Choreographer in Residence for the Queensland Ballet in 1994 and the Australian Ballet in 2000. During that time she created seven works for the Queensland Ballet and three works for the Australian Ian Colless D’Arcy Andrews Francis Christeller Ballet. Natalie choreographed two works for the American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company after which the American Ballet Theatre in New York performed Jabula. Natalie created a solo for the American Ballet Theatre star Ethan Steiffel. He later performed the work at the International Ballet Festival Marijinsky at the Kirov in St Petersburg (Russia). Whilst in America Natalie was one of four choreographers involved in the Harrison Project Within You, Without You, a tribute to George Harrison. Natalie received the Choo San Goh Award for Steppenwolfe, created for the Houston Ballet in America. Natalie has also been the recipient of an Australia Council Fellowship towards her development as an Artistic Director. She also received the Lord Mayor’s Fellowship that enabled her to travel overseas and study with Rambert Dance Company, Nederlands Dance Company, and Siobhan Davies Dance Company. In April 2003, she created Harmonium for the American Ballet Theatre and a full-length version of Turandot for the Hong Kong Ballet, which won at the 2004 Hong Kong Dance Awards, and a new creation of Madama Butterfly. Natalie created Icarus for Tanzcompagnie Giessen (Germany), toured Germany with The Unwritten (Queensland Ballet), and she traveled to London to set Jabula and The Unwritten at the Royal Ballet School for Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. She has also created a version of Wuthering Heights and Petrushka for the Queensland Ballet, In Her Footsteps for Tasdance, Lacrimosa for the West Australian Ballet Company, and has created Orpheus for the Queensland Ballet Company. Jenna Drelincourt Hsiang-Ju Lin Sim-Wei Low Natalie has just been appointed Artistic Director of Expressions Dance Company and will take up this appointment in January 2009. JASON ORGAN – Lighting Designer AssocDipAT, BCAE Jason graduated from Brisbane College of Advanced Education, now QUT, in 1988. He is co–founder of JLX Productions, a Queensland based design and technical consultancy, whose clients stretch from community theatre groups, major arts organisations and festivals, to corporate presentation and events. Jason’s design credits include Figaro Variations, Power and Sonata for Ten Hands for Rock and Roll Circus, The Little Mermaid, Giselle and E-motion for Queensland Ballet, The Tale of Monkey for Grin & Tonic Theatre Troupe, The Road To Mecca, Sitcom Festival and American Buffalo for Queensland Theatre Company, Seems Like Yesterday and Yarnin’ Up for Kooemba Jdarra and Way Out West, Svetlana in Slingbacks and Scar
