10 SUN 09 NOV 2014 WORLD DANCE MESSAGE

Dance is the art of humanity. It speaks with the human body, the human heart and the human mind and imagination, all of which define the human condition.

Dance is a remarkable language. It can speak to all cultures through the literal and the abstract, the playful and the serious, the sacred and the social.

When the dancing body reaches the state of artistry, it becomes divine.

Dance is a living activity which needs only the will to dance in order to dance.

I have so many fond memories of the performing at The Australian Dance Awards as a dancer. The awards to me really are a wonderful glamorous community event for all.

The inspiration for the program came while digging around the Ausdance NSW archives. I found some amazing photos of past awards, especially the old 1980’s Dancer Picnics. What struck me was the beauty in those moments captured, a community coming together, unified in their love for dance.

The 2014 Australian Dance Awards theme is something new, something from the vault, and something memorable. Oh and to make sure we have a lot fun along the way!

I imagine all the audience and all the performers sitting in one massive green room sharing their love for dance.

This year we have 92 performers. I am lucky to have the opportunity to create some specially created items and working with our super talented hosts.

I absolutely love and feel so passionate about dance and I am honoured to be sharing it through the 2014 ADA program.
