Second Sale of Breeding & Store Sheep The Old School, The Bryn, Penpergwm, Abergavenny, NP7 9AH [email protected] Tel: 01873 840726 SECOND SALE OF BREEDING & STORE SHEEP Friday 30 th August 2019 An excellent entry of 1,571 Store and Breeding Sheep forward (1,988 – 2018) for our Second Sale at Usk Showground. The ewes were mainly in excellent condition due to the plentiful supply of grass this year, with the strongest and biggest ewes the easiest to sell. The purebred Texel ewes created exceptional interest with the Texel x Mules also a strong trade and short of buyers requirements. FLOCK EWES A smaller entry of 98 flock ewes forward, which was anticipated as producers cull hard. Texel x (2 y.o.) sold to £113 from TG & ID Biddle, St Briavels, with Suffolk x (2 y.o.) to £100 from the same home. Beeswax Dyson Farming Ltd, Bath, sold Scotch Mules (2 y.o.) to £99. Texel x (3 & 4 y.o.) from VN Jones, Monmouth to £97. Max. £113 Min. £82 Average £98.57 (£102.22 – 2018) YEARLING EWES An excellent entry of 1,167 yearling ewes forward down from 1,548 in 2018, that said, we have sold 636 yearling ewes in early August this year. The pedigree Texel and Texel x Mules were back in favour this year with considerable competition for the best pens. Strong, well back Suffolk yearlings continue to hold their own ground with keen bidding. Only the very best of the Mules excited the buyers with limited interest for the more ordinary sorts. Texel yearlings soared to £240 for four from TC & RL Adams, Llanthrithyd. Mrs JM Grey, Groesfaen, sold Pedigree Texels to £200 (6) whilst purebreds from GW James, Peterston Super Ely, topped at £170 (9). A super run of strong Texel x Mules from I Sevenoaks & Sons, Walterstone, sold at £155 with PG Amphlett, Brecon, not far behind at £148. Suffolk x Mules to £149 & £141 for powerful sorts from G Chandler, Llangattock Lingoed. All the strong ewes £130 plus, a very smart pen of Coloured Welsh Mules to £147 from Heath & Cowles, Tregare. A small entry of Aberfield crosses sold to £126 from Haskells Partnership, Broadoak. Harder bred ewes generally £110-£120, with no ewes less than £100. Average up £3 per head on the year. Max. £240 Min. £100 Average £125.22 (£122.14 – 2018) EWE LAMBS A good show of 236 ewe lambs meeting a brisk trade for all types. Suffolk x Mules from JN Turner, Machen sold to £91. RT Watkins, Llanvapley, sold Suffolk crosses to £84. Beeswax Dyson Farming Ltd, Bath sold Suffolk x Muels to £82. Average price up £2.40 on the year. Max. £91 Min. £59 Average £76.14 (£73.75 – 2018) STORE LAMBS A small entry of store lambs to £60 for Suffolk x from Heath & Cowles, Tregare. BREEDING RAMS An excellent entry of 60 Breeding Rams forward, with power and scale meeting a sensational trade. Charolais cross yearlings to £760 from TL Prichard, Llantrisant. Texel rams to £600 from IT Davies & Son, Garthbrengy, Brecon and £600 (twice) from RJ Watkins & Son, Kentchurch. Charolais x Texel rams to £580 from A & O Hughes, Sigingstone, Cowbridge. Suffolk yearlings to £400 from O & Z Hughes, Coed Ely. Charolais ram lambs to £300 from CH Rees, Llantwit Major. Yearling Rams Max. £760 Min. £230 Average £467.74 (£412.69 – 2018) Ram Lambs Max. £360 Min. £200 Average £253.75 ************** NEXT SALE 2,500 STORE & BREEDING SHEEP inc. • 1. PURPOSE: to Consider the Proposed Order Subsequent to Representations Received Following Advertisement in Accordance With
SUBJECT: PROPOSED 50 MPH MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT B4598 B4598 PENPERGWM – USK AND R64 LLANVIHANGEL GOBION - RAGLAN MEETING: Cabinet DATE: 7th January 2015 DIVISION/WARDS AFFECTED: Bryn y Cwm, Central; Llanover, Llanbadoc, Raglan 1. PURPOSE: To consider the proposed Order subsequent to representations received following advertisement in accordance with the Local Authorities Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations 1996. 2. RECOMMENDATIONS: Not to hold an inquiry into the proposal. To approve the proposed Order as consulted and advertised and to implement the Order. 3. KEY ISSUES: Following receipt of a petition advocating a lower speed limit on the B4598 Usk – Hardwick Interchange and route R64 Llanvihangel Gobion – Raglan Roundabout roads, and in accordance with the recommendation of the Strong Communities Select Committee on 30th April, conditions on these routes were assessed in accordance with the Welsh Governments ‘Setting Local Speed Limits in Wales’ guidance. It was considered that a 50mph maximum speed limit in lieu of the existing national speed limit (60mph) would be appropriate between Penpergwm and Usk, and between Steelhorse Café and Raglan Roundabout, whilst retaining the existing 40mph maximum speed limits at Llanfair Kilgeddin and Llancayo. Accordingly these proposals were consulted upon and advertised. Consequently two petitions have been received, together with responses from Gwent Police, three Councillors, two Community Councils, and 23 members of the public. The police originally expressed reservations but subsequently stated they do not have any objections to the proposal. The signatories of one petition, the community councils and 17 individual respondents indicate their support, whilst the signatories of the other petition and 6 individual respondents object.
