(Largest of its kind in Western Australia. “Where once I saw promise I now see maturity and quality that bracket this still quite small producer with the best of Margaret River.” Ray Jordan ‘The West Australian’ 1 History Although original vines on the Estate were planted as early as 1978, it was not until 1991 that third generation Australian, Michael Wright, purchased the property and set out to make it a showcase for the region. The large and ever growing collection of trophies, gold medals and awards already bestowed on Voyager’s ultra-premium wines testifies to the foresight of this vision and the success of his efforts. Coming from a family whose involvement in farming dates back 140 years, Michael is keenly aware that to create something truly unique involves planning, effort and above all, time.

WINE BOUTIQUE WINE SELECTION WHY BOUTIQUE WINES? Once upon a time, wine was made on a small-scale, at the village level by extended families, with each person pitching in after the harvest, often producing just enough for their own consumption through the year. While the world of wine has evolved dramatically from these early days towards a system of mass production and worldwide distribution, there is today a growing interest in the wines of smaller, local producers. These boutique, artisanal wines embody the original spirit of wine making, inspired by personal passion and a state of mind which values a hands-on approach and a desire to stay close to the land and to tradition. Raya Heritage’s boutique wine selection intends to capture this spirit by introducing the exceptional wines of some of these smaller winemakers to you, our guests. LUDOVICO PERONI TRAPPOLINI, LAZIO, ITALY Wine has always been part of everyday life for the Peroni family, which boasts a long lineage of proud winemakers who have passed down their passion and knowledge from one generation to the next, carrying forward an ancient tradition inspired by the land itself while laying the grounds of a legacy for the future. WHITE WINE Raggio di Sole Bianco Lazio IGT 2014 1,900 Pale yellow with hints of gold. Fine and intense on the nose with mineral scents, peach and white floral flavors, well balanced and with a good acidity. Pinot Grigio Lazio IGT 2014 2,300 Pale yellow with hints of gold. Harmonic and complex in the nose with scents of citrus and flowers, well balanced, fresh and with a pleasant acidity.

2008 shiraz The 2008 Shiraz is an impressive Shiraz that continues the evolution of this variety at Voyager Estate and in Margaret River. Small batch fermentation and soft winemaking techniques are employed to ensure the fruit aromatics are respected and the fi ne tannins and intense colour are extracted from the grapes. The Wine The fantastic growing conditions and low fruit yields made for an intense wine that exudes dark fruit fl avours of blackberries, blueberries and blood plums. Crème brulée and anise aromas add to the complexity delivered by the use of quality French and American oak over the 12 months maturation period. Superb structure and mid-palate fruit sweetness are supported by soft powdery tannins on the fi nish. Vineyard The stony, gravelly soils of the region are best suited to growing Shiraz in Margaret River. Our seven Shiraz blocks comprise fi ve different clones and are planted on some of our toughest, shallow, gravelly soils which reduce the inherent vigour of this variety. With the cooling sea breezes off the Indian Ocean and intensive viticultural management, including crop–thinning and green–thinning, the vines are sensitively managed to produce an impressive Shiraz that continues the evolution of this variety at Voyager Estate and in Margaret River. Vintage The 2008 growing season started quite cool and damp and by November we were heading into a great Margaret River summer. Beautiful warm–to–hot days, mild nights and a lack of rainfall combined to produce one of the best red wine vintages the region has seen. Yields of Shiraz were a touch lower than normal, averaging fi ve tonnes per Hectare and we saw lovely tannin ripeness develop very early on.
