Additions and corrections are welcome at [email protected] Arado Ar 234 "Blitz" in Soviet service Soviet troops captured one example of the world's first jet bomber in northern Germany in spring 1945 (Russian sources state that it was found at Pütnitz in March, but Pütnitz was occupied by the Red Army only on 2 May). The aircraft underwent short trials at Rechlin in early 1946, but suffered from repeated engine problems. As the Soviet specialists involved in the trials were not impressed by the "Blitz" they refrained from sending it to the Soviet Union. It is probable that further Ar 234s (especially of the Ar 234C-3 version) fell into Soviet hands when the Red Army captured the Arado factory at Alt-Lönnewitz (Brandenburg) on 24 April 1945. One Russian source states that one Ar 234B and one Ar 234C were despatched to the Soviet Union where they underwent comprehensive study - in particular, one of the aircraft was thoroughly examined by BNT, the Bureau of New Technology. One of the captured Ar 234s was restored to airworthy condition in 1946 and used by the LII for testing brake parachutes. 140355 no code Ar 234B-2 Soviet Air Force f/f 30nov44 previously opb KG 76 of the German Air Force; in dark green/brown purple camo c/s with light grey undersides, the last letter of the unit code may have been an 'F'; captured by Soviet troops in damaged condition (after a forced landing) reportedly at Pütnitz mar45, but

PŘEDMLUVA Devadesátiletá historie kbelského letiště má úzkou souvislost s dějinami moderního českého státu. V jistém smyslu je jejich kronikou. Je na jedné straně kronikou událostí a významných okamžiků (a to jak se znaménkem plus, tak i minus), ale je i přehlídkou osobností, které tyto události charakterizovaly nebo se k nim vztahovaly. Na straně druhé je těchto devadesát let i poučným a přehledným dokumentem neobyčejného rozvoje techniky, který je symbolem celé moderní doby – tak jako nikdy předtím v lidské historii. Bez čeho by však žádná technika neměla smysl, jsou lidé, kteří i tak svébytný svět, jakým letiště bezesporu je, naplňují svou prací a svými osudy. Přejme si, aby kbelské letiště ještě dlouho plnilo svou významnou funkci vůči Praze, České republice i její armádě a aby odpovědnost a profesionalita jeho zaměstnanců vytvářela dobré podmínky k bezpečnému provozu. Jsem přesvědčen, že dnešní vysoká technická úroveň spolu s talentem a schopnostmi našich vojáků jsou záru- kou, že je budoucnost kbelského letiště dobře zajištěna.

    SH48197 1/48 Aero C-3A ‘Czechoslovakian Transport and Trainer Plane’ In 1934 in the German city of Halle, Hanns Klemm, an aircraft designer and manufacturer, set up a branch of his aircraft factory. The new plant was to produce multi-engined, all-metal aircraft, in contrast to the original factory where wood was still being used for building the aeroplanes. In 1937, the Halle plant was taken over by the famous German aviator Friedrich Siebel who also gave it his name. The plant mainly focused on licence-built designs, but had a couple of their own aicraft designs too. The first type to be produced by this new plant was the Fh 104 Hallore, a desing in fact originating in the Klemm works. In 1938, Germany's flag carrier Deutsche Luft Hansa in cooperation with the RLM announced tender for a fast, twin-engined transport aircraft. Before the winning design could be found, the war had broken out which meant the new type would be used just (or mainly) by the German military. The prototype Si 204A first flew on 23 May 1941, being of an all-metal construction and powered by a pair of Argus As 411 engines and differed from all later versions by having a stepped pilots' canopy. Its production was commenced at the Halle plant at first but as their workers were busy with producing Ju 88 bombers, the production was later transferred to the French Société Nationale de Constructions Aéronautiques du Nord (SNCAN). The third prototype machine was finished as the new Si 204D version which had completely glazed pilots' office similar to that of the He 111H/P and Ju 88A bomber aeroplanes and in this new configuration, the type perfectly suited to the trainer role.
