When General Secretary Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol Ju came to the auditorium of the theatre, enthusiastic cheers of “hurrah” resounded the venue. Officials of the Central Committee of the WPK and commanding officers of the armed forces organs saw the performance. Put on stage were a variety of numbers, including solo, chorus and instrumental music ensemble. The performers gave an impressive depiction of the noble ideological and spiritual world of the officers’ wives who are glorifying every moment of their lives with ardent patriotism and loyalty, keeping pace with their husbands serving in the army. Numbers that portrayed the life of the officers’ wives who are fulfilling their moral obligation and responsibilities as kindhearted mothers of the soldiers and as dependable householders of servicemen's families touched the heartstrings of the audience. The General Secretary expressed his thanks to the officers’ wives, greatly satisfied with their fresh performance which was clear in ideological and political import and was of great cognitive and educational significance. And he specified important tasks in guiding the work with officers’ wives.     Territorial Diplomacy: Seo Hui's Compromise and Demands for the Goryeo Dynasty Jungmin Bae, Jin Young Kim, Do Hyun Choi, Sunyoung Hwang, Andrew Chanho Kim Senior Division Group Performance Process Paper: 477 words The brilliant diplomacy demonstrated by Seo Hui, a civil servant during the Goryeo dynasty, when dealing with the Khitans in 993 C.E. is literally a textbook case of “conflict and compromise”—many Korean history textbooks include the famous story of how Seo Hui averted war with the Khitans and expanded his country’s territory with only his wits. The compromise he engineered in the face of serious conflict is still praised as a solution that effectively solved the problem at hand by accurately assessing the geopolitical situation of that time. Although we knew Seo Hui’s territorial diplomacy would be a good topic for this year’s National History Day, we had significant difficulty finding primary sources to corroborate our performance. We were puzzled at the dearth of original documents dating back to the Goryeo dynasty, as most of us had expected​ detailed records like ​The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, which were written during the dynasty which succeeded Goryeo. Through research, we learned that the lack of primary documents from the Goryeo era could be attributed to the Japanese Invasions of Korea(1592-1598) during which Goryeo documents were destroyed. However, we ​ were luckily able to​ gain access to online versions of ​Goryeosa and ​Goryeosajeolyo, historical records of Goryeo written during the Joseon dynasty. Although these are secondary sources, they were written before Goryeo records were lost, thus ensuring their accuracy.

Cochran, Ph.D. Natural Resources Defense Council Presented at the 54th Pugwash Conference on Science and World Affairs Seoul, Republic of Korea 4-9 October 2004 In 2003 the Nuclear Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) undertook a project to create a geo-spatial database of North Korea, drawing on information from U.S. and South Korean military maps, 10-meter resolution black and white and 15-meter resolution color satellite imagery covering the entire Korean peninsula and—most importantly—NRDC’s extensive collection of higher-resolution commercial satellite imagery of North Korean cities and other specific areas. Currently the NRDC database contains over 3,500 data records, including sites relating to the North Korean economic and power-generating infrastructure, political leadership and military. Each data record is comprised of data fields that identify the point of interest by name, its coordinates and function, the source of the coordinates, reference data and other characteristics of interest.
