AMSOIL Championship Snocross opens its 2012-’13 season @ Duluth’s Spirit Mountain Three days of thrilling snowmobile racing action, Nov. 23-25, above downtown Duluth kicks off the nationwide racing series For more information contact: Pat Schutte, PR Director, ISOC Racing [email protected] MINNEAPOLIS (Oct. 29, 2012) – The world’s top professional snowmobile racers – including Minnesota’s own Tucker Hibbert (Pelican Rapids), Robbie Malinoski (Lino Lakes) and Duluth’s Bobby “The Rage” LePage – come blazing into Duluth’s Spirit Mountain Nov. 23-25 for the opening round of the 2012-’13 AMSOIL Championship Snocross tour – the AMSOIL Duluth National Snocross - and all hoping to un-seed last year’s ACS champion - Canada’s Tim Tremblay! The high-flying sport of snocross (‘snowmobile motocross’) is celebrated as one of the state of Minnesota’s biggest motorsports events, and certainly the state’s biggest winter outdoor motorsport event. Some 30,000 fans will converge on the city of Duluth’s iconic ski area – Spirit Mountain – on Thanksgiving Weekend to watch the world’s best snowmobile racers flying their factory-backed sleds – many built by Minnesota-based Arctic Cat (Thief River Falls) and Polaris (Medina) – in the natural and man-made snow high above the Duluth skyline. Created by Visit Duluth in 1992, this long-running event – the longest of its kind in the sport of snocross worldwide – is sanctioned by the International Series of Champions (ISOC) with top pro-am riders competing for the prestigious C.J. Ramstad Memorial Cup. Diehard fans can watch all the action from the outdoor grandstands, evoking a long foregone winter sports vista similar to when the Vikings played outdoors at the old Metropolitan Stadium. Fans more in tune with indoor spectating can watch the racing action from indoors Spirit Mountain’s newly renovated chalet.
