PROFILES OF CORPORATION BOARD MEMBERS

Colin Cornelius (Until May 2020) Chair of the Corporation Board Previously a Group Manager at Barclays Bank, Colin is now self-employed and a business consultant to a number of companies. He possesses considerable financial expertise and has held several Chairman/Treasurer positions across health, education and the sporting spectrum.

Chantal Patel (Until June 2022) Vice-Chair of the Corporation Board Chantal is Head of Inter-professional studies at University. She is also a Board member of POBL and non-officer member of ABMU.

David Ashelby (Until June 2022) David is the retired Academic Secretary of Swansea Metropolitan University. He has broad experience of Education which has included involvement with national developments particularly in the post 16 sectors, the parallel developments of academic and vocational routes, and institutional collaborations.

John Britton (Until June 2019) John is the Assistant Director of Planning at and has fifteen years’ experience of working in higher education, previously at and Cardiff Metropolitan University. He is a member of the UK-wide Higher Education Data and Information Improvement Programme’s Project Board. He has also participated in two Europe-wide focus groups regarding ‘Performance-Based Funding’, and ‘Mergers and Concentration Measures’ for the European Universities Association.

Tim Clark (Until September 2018) Tim is a multi-skilled mechanical engineer with 25 years industrial experience. He is an educationalist who is committed to raising standards and curriculum reform.

Mike Day (Until September 2020) Mike is a Director of two companies promoting educational developments for children and young people. He is a Founding Trustee of International Education , a charity seeking to promote the exchange of best educational practice between Wales and other countries. He is also a Councillor for Ward.

Andrew Donald (Until May 2022) Andrew is a Sales Management Specialist within the IT and Services Industry and has a wide experience of general management. He has sat on a number of public bodies and has a diverse background in finance, IT, sport, manufacturing and the voluntary sector. He currently has a son studying at the College.

Carol Green (Until June 2020) Carol is a former vice-chair of the Corporation Board and Executive Director of Swansea Council for Voluntary Services. She is a Magistrate, a member of the Valuation Tribunal Wales, a Trustee of the Building Communities Trust and a trustee of U3A Swansea.

Meirion Howells (Until June 2020) Meirion has served as a Board member and Secretary of Swansea RFC and for five years was secretary of the WRU Premier Clubs Committee. He was Managing Director of a large construction company prior to setting up a Project Management Consultancy in 1994. The Company’s projects ranged in value from £100k to £10m across the UK and overseas. He has served as an LEA Governor in a Welsh medium primary school and for eight years as a member, and for the last two years as Chairman, of the City and County of Swansea Standards Committee.

Mark Jones Mark is Principal and Chief Executive Officer of . Prior to returning to Swansea Mark had been Principal of College for 8 years. Mark is a qualified teacher as well as being a qualified chartered accountant.

Ceri Low (Until September 2018) With a background in Law and Education, Ceri currently co-ordinates Additional Learning Support. This involves working across all areas of the College, ensuring staff technology and necessary specific support is provided for students with a variety of additional learning needs and disabilities.

Fiona Rees (Until May 2021) Fiona is a Director of FR Marketing and provides marketing and communications advice, guidance and practical support to businesses and organisations in south Wales. She has more than 30 years’ experience of working in public, private and not for profit sectors, has a broad network of connections and an excellent understanding of the challenges facing the region in terms of regeneration, economic development, employment and skills.

Kieron Rees (Until September 2020) Kieron is currently employed as Public Affairs Manager for Carers Trust Wales. He has wide experience of working across the Welsh Policy sector having previously worked for NUS Wales, Rathbone Cymru, and as Chair of Public Affairs Cymru. He is an English Teacher and held voluntary positions with the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and Higher Education Funding Council for England.

Ray Singh CBE (Until June 2018) Ray Singh CBE is a Barrister-at-Law, a Judge as a full and part-time for 20 years, is also a Vice-Chair of Grwp Gwalia CYF, an Independent Member of Velindre Cancer and Welsh Blood Service, NHS Trust, President of Children's Contact Centres Network, Wales, the Chair of Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil Children's Contact Centres, a Trustee/Board member of National Association of Children’s Contact Centres of England Wales and N.Ireland, a trained Mediator in Family and Children Matters, a former Governor of Swansea Metropolitan University,a Former CRE Commissioner, UK and Commissioner for Wales and lastly , the current Chair of Race Council Cymru.

Gary Williams (Until May 2021) Gary has been Principal and Vice Principal of two FE institutions and until his recent retirement worked for Tribal Education as Director of FE and HE Services. Gary has a vast employment history within the private and public sectors and advises colleges on merger and other aspects in New Zealand and in the UK.

Susan Williams (Until September 2020) Susan has a background in Social Services as a social worker, and as a team Manager for the Care Home Quality Team. She has also worked as a consultant for Grwp Gwalia on residential care systems. She has previously worked as a volunteer for Women’s Aid Newport, and as Co- ordinator for the Gwent Red Cross Hospital Library Programme.
