Deutsche Bank has adopted some of the most remote and tribal villages in Dhadgaon and Akkalkuwa blocks of Nandurbar, Maharashtra. Scarcity of water was a major issue in Debramal – a Gram Panchayat consisting of 5 villages. After Debramal got incorporated in VSTF, these 5 villages got water supply and electricity for the first time in 70 years through the gap funding provided by VSTF. These villagers no longer ‘buy’ water from tankers. Funds were utilized for works in Jalyukt Shivar as well which led to increased ground water levels and villages have water even during summer. 215 households and approximately 1100 individual beneficiaries have been benefitted. Basic Infrastructure like road connectivity was an issue in these 5 villages of Debramal because of which basic needs like – education, health etc. were being affected. The villagers of Debramal had been struggling to get road connectivity since decades. However, through gap funding, the proposal for road connectivity in Debramal got approved and is being built under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY). Partial funds are being utilized for various other purposes like – providing nutrition to pregnant and lactating mothers, building/ repairing schools, painting schools in order to reduce drop-outs, installing solar panels for street lights which were earlier only namesake, for sanitation, water purification plants distributed to health sub-centres etc. Nandurbar District • Nandurbar is an administrative district in the northwest corner of Maharashtra state in India.
