Stewardship of Tithes and Talents STEWARDSHIP OF TITHES AND TALENTS MUSIC & WORSHIP RESOURCES Sunday, May 18, 2008 Nolan Williams, Jr., Lectionary Team Liturgist 1. Introit or Processional We Are an Offering. By Dwight Liles 2. Litany Stewardship Leader O God, we desire to be good stewards of all that you have made: the earth, the world, and all that dwells therein. All that we have comes as a trust from you. Congregation God, Elohim, we give thanks for your gifts to us. Leader We are called by God to use whatever gifts we have been given in service to others. Congregation As you have so freely given to us and lovingly made us what we are, we now STEWARDSHIP OF TITHES AND TALENTS - MUSIC & WORSHIP RESOURCES 1 freely give back to you the substance of our lives—our time, talent, and money. Leader We are reminded in the gospel that from the poverty of the cross we have gained the richness of life. Congregation Thank you, Lord, for allowing us to give to the work you have assigned our hand to do in this your earthly kingdom. Leader You have put your divine stamp upon us, endowed us with honor, and created us in your likeness. We are fearfully and wonderfully made. Through providence and grace we offer our tithes and offerings on your altar. Congregation Lord, Adonai, where our hearts and hands are closed, open them. Where our resolve is weak, strengthen us. Leader Our health and strength have come from you and it is you who make our financial resources possible. Congregation Teach us to give as we have received. Remind us that what we claim as ours is really yours. Without your gifts to us we have nothing. Leader We are called by you, O Lord, to be good stewards of all that has been entrusted in our care. You have called us to honor your name with our presence and our service. Congregation Gracious God, our prayer is that we may give a good accounting of our stewardship. Leader We have received the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ as a gift, and we have been made his disciples. ALL We pray that we shall be good and faithful stewards, sharing with others the light that Jesus has given to us, ever giving and serving from a willing heart. We have freely received, now let us freely give! 3. Congregational Songs (a) A Charge to Keep I Have. By Charles Wesley. Document Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Musical Arts in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Crystal Yvonne Sellers Graduate Program in Music The Ohio State University 2009 Dissertation Committee: Loretta Robinson, Advisor Karen Peeler C. Patrick Woliver Copyright by Crystal Yvonne Sellers 2009 Abstract ―I Sing Because I‘m Free‖: Developing a Systematic Vocal Pedagogy for the Modern Gospel Singer With roots in the early songs and Spirituals of the African American slave, and influenced by American Jazz and Blues, Gospel music holds a significant place in the music history of the United States. Whether as a choral or solo composition, Gospel music is accompanied song, and its rhythms, textures, and vocal styles have become infused into most of today‘s popular music, as well as in much of the music of the evangelical Christian church. For well over a century voice teachers and voice scientists have studied thoroughly the Classical singing voice. The past fifty years have seen an explosion of research aimed at understanding Classical singing vocal function, ways of building efficient and flexible Classical singing voices, and maintaining vocal health care; more recently these studies have been extended to Pop and Musical Theater voices. Surprisingly, to date almost no studies have been done on the voice of the Gospel singer. Despite its growth in popularity, a thorough exploration of the vocal requirements of singing Gospel, developed through years of unique tradition and by hundreds of noted Gospel artists, is virtually non-existent.

October 18, 2013 Music Business in Detroit: Estimating the Size of the Music Industry in the Motor City Prepared by: Anderson Economic Group, LLC Colby Spencer Cesaro, Senior Analyst Alex Rosaen, Senior Consultant Lauren Branneman, Senior Analyst Forward by: Patrick L. All other rights reserved. Foreword I'm pleased to share with readers of Crain's Detroit Business, as well as with others in the Detroit region, this first-of-its-kind study of the business of music in southeast Michigan. Everyone that grew up in this area knows of the "Motown sound," as well as the heritage of jazz, blues, and rock that has steeped into our culture. Many of us are also aware of the more recent innovations of techno and hip-hop, much of which has roots in Detroit. However, until now there has been no systematic analysis of the business of music in our area. Our Anderson Economic Group consultants have combed census and other business records; examined the geographic pattern of nightclubs and perfor- mance venues; scanned demographic patterns for concentrations of heavy enter- tainment consumers; and even conducted primary research into the days/nights of live music available to metro Detroiters at over two hundred specific bars, taverns, and clubs. What we have assembled is a thorough analysis of an indus- try that has always been important to our culture, but can now also be known for its contributions to our employment and earnings.

from Kirk Ward blog - worshipinthecity.wordpress.com/2012/10/25/101-congregational-worship-songs-in-the-gospel-style 101 Congregational Worship Songs in the Gospel Style A friend of mine asked for help with leads on where to get good congregational songs for worship in the Gospel style. I did a quick Planning Center filter of our songs at New City Fellowship and then cut it down to a solid 101. I organized it by artist and I apologize for any spelling errors in names or miss-matched artists. I decided to connect the song with the best recording not as much with the composer or original artist. I recommend YouTube as a place to hear all of this music. This is not supposed to be “the best,” but just a good place to start. • Fourth Sunday of Advent
FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT MUSIC & WORSHIP RESOURCES Sunday, December 21, 2008 Michelle Riley Jones, Guest Lectionary Liturgist Minister of Music, Capitol Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church, Washington, DC and Executive Director, NEWorks Worship Planning Notes Today’s lection makes clear that if we rely on our own reasoning, our own skills and talents, our attitudes of “I’m saved, sanctified, and filled with the Spirit,” we will surely burn up! This posture is dangerous in worship because these types of approaches and attitudes separate us from “thus saith the Lord,” and they invariably “oppress”—are a deterrent to, repress and keep down—those who are truly seeking God. These attitudes also prevent worship planners from being in tune with or sensitive to the changes in our congregations as a result of the “holiday blues,” which affects people around this time of year. In worship, our goal is to lift up God—to worship—thereby leading others to worship. Every song, every Scripture, every prayer, every sermon, every dance, everything must FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT - MUSIC & WORSHIP RESOURCES 1 have this focus. We must help persons continue to believe the Gospel of Christ, and stay close to the Word, and God will work through us to reach hearts, and will work a change in people. It is this type of worship planning and delivery through which God brings the sunshine of healing, restoration, and reconciliation to all! This brings joy and great expectation for our soon-coming Lord; and causes men and women to not only look for, but to also be ready for Him when He comes! Prepare the way of the Lord! Colors While purple has traditionally marked Advent, many Protestant churches now use royal blue to distinguish the Season of Advent from Lent.
