    DESCRIPTION OF SOCIEDAD ANÓNIMA DAMM AND ITS GROUP General information Sociedad Anónima Damm (“Damm”) was incorporated as a public limited company (sociedad anónima) under the laws of Spain, for an indefinite term on 3 January 1910 and is currently registered with the Commercial Registry of Barcelona, in Volume 21.167, Book 1 and Page number B-17.713. Its registered address is calle Rosselló 515, Barcelona, Spain and its tax ID number is A-08000820. Damm’s corporate objects are the brewing and selling of beer and its residues and by-products, which it may carry out directly or through other companies in which it owns a stake. Damm is the parent company of several subsidiaries engaged in different activities directly or indirectly related with the corporate objects of Damm, and which together with Damm form a consolidated group of companies operating principally in the beverages industry (the “Damm Group”). History Damm traces its roots back 140 years, to 1876, when August Kuentzmann Damm and his wife Melanie, fleeing from the Franco-Prussian War, left their native Alsace, and with his cousin Joseph Damm, began brewing and marketing Strasburger beer using the symbol of a star in Barcelona. Since then, Estrella Damm has been brewed using the same original recipe from 1876 and 100 per cent. natural ingredients, a combination of barley malt, rice and hops. Damm was incorporated in 1910, when three major breweries in Barcelona merged and has since focused its activity on the brewing and selling of beer, having consolidated its position as one of the top three Spanish brewers by production volume.

    The America’s Cup 2007: The Nexus of Media, Sport and Big Business A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts in Mass Communication Jared Peter Grellet ___________________________________________________ University of Canterbury 2009 ABSTRACT Over the past twenty years, the America’s Cup has grown into a significant media event in the New Zealand public sphere. This thesis focused on the New Zealand print media coverage of the 2007 regatta in Spain, analysing how different newspapers framed their coverage of the event, before interviewing the journalists who provided the stories to understand the constraints under which they worked. The analysis recorded and coded all stories relating to the America’s Cup in four of New Zealand’s daily metropolitan newspapers between April 2, 2007 and July 15, 2007. This thesis found that although the America’s Cup had shifted from between a competition between nations as the role of big-business increased, the New Zealand print media continued to focus on Emirates Team New Zealand, even though a significant number of New Zealanders were competing for foreign-based entries. The role of big businesses, including the New Zealand Government, went largely unreported in the New Zealand print media. Interviews with the journalists would suggest that their main role in Valencia was to report the racing, with limited time outside of this to report on other aspects of the event. 1. Most of their activities take place in Spanish territory but they are currently carrying out a process of internationalization and expansion. 2. HISTORY OF DAMM It all started back in the 1876, when the Alsacian August Kuentzmann Damm2, his wife Melanie and his cousin Joseph Damm, emigrated to Spain running away from the Franco-Prussian War. They settled in Barcelona and started brewing and commercializing Strasburger beer in the Mediterranean coast under the symbol of a star, and therefore bringing to life the foundation of Damm. They have been following and conserving throughout all the years their original recipe based on 100% natural ingredients consisting in barley malt, rice, and hops. In 1897, Joseph Damm acquired the company as a consequence of August Kuentzmann’s death in 1877.
