Association Historical-Cities.Org : 16 Years of Partnership with the City of Lyon ASSOCIATION HISTORICAL-CITIES.ORG : 16 YEARS OF PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF LYON The historic sector of Lyon is recognised worldwide for its heritage and tourism. Internet promotion is one of the most important elements to make the historic sector better known and thus effectively promote the city through this territorial marketing element. 16 years ago, an association launched the project to promote the heritage of Ancient Lyon on the Internet. A successful gamble: recognised by UNESCO, in partnership with the City, the various websites of the association Historical- Cities.org have become the references on the web to promote the UNESCO sector of Lyon. Genesis The initial vision of the founding association VieuxLyon.org in 2004 was to pilot and develop a generic knowledge base tool associated with a three- dimensional evocation of Old Lyon, adding to it all the potential of an informative portal site. The project was selected at the Carrefour des Possibles in Lyon on 13 December 2004 as one of 10 innovative "ICT" projects by the jury, including the City of Lyon and Lyon Metropole. Association Historical-Cities.org - 43 montée St-Laurent Lyon 5e +33 651153841 – 03/03/2020 - 1/15 Since then, a long process of testing and development work has been carried out. In 2006, the VieuxLyon.org association was created, supported from the outset by Alexandrine PESSON, mayor of the 5th arrondissement. The non-profit-making association that is now Historical-Cities.org, formerly VieuxLyon.org, was declared of general interest in May 2010. It only brings together volunteers, patrons and supporters. For 15 years now, the association has been promoting "Old Lyon" on the Internet. It now brings together 13 people for development, around 50 members, and more than 300 contacts: active members, scientific partners, historians and professors, and supporters including the City of Lyon. First achievements: first successes In 2008, a small window was opened on the "web" and it was a success: a first website www.vieux- lyon.org, as well as a first simplified guided tour of Old Lyon for smartphones in English, Spanish and Chinese ... The basic idea of VieuxLyon.org was to provide easy access for everyone to the knowledge of the ancient heritage : - Getting to know Old Lyon on the Internet - Show the visual aspect of the premises (prepare your visit) - Directory of websites - Photo library Association Historical-Cities..org - 43 montée St-Laurent Lyon 5e +33 651153841 – 03/03/2020 - 2/15 UNESCO Sector Since 2013, the website https://www.patrimoine-lyon.org (www.lyon- unesco.org) covering the entire Unesco sector in Lyon is open to the general public and answers questions from Lyon residents, visitors and tourists alike. It can help you prepare your visit, find information on emblematic places, detail certain existing monuments with 360° views, as well as visualise places that have disappeared. It has a chronology, an extensive bibliography and a vast photo library, complete with 3D models and 360° panoramas. Seven commented visits in Google Earth, Google Maps and Pdf formats make it easy to browse and identify the main places not to be missed. The average number of visits is 500 per day. The website is still under development today, to enrich the data of the Presqu'Ile, Croix-Rousse, Confluence and to unveil the little known district of Montauban - Pierre-Scize. The scientific partners and supporters have contributed a great deal to the success of the project: Lyon 5e City Council (since the project began), the School of Architecture, the Editions Lyonnaises d'Art et d'Histoire, the St-Just St-Irénée Sanctuary Association, the Gadagne Museums, the Lyon in 1700 Association, the Gallo-Roman Museums, the Municipal Archives, the Lyon Municipal Library, ... Association Historical-Cities..org - 43 montée St-Laurent Lyon 5e +33 651153841 – 03/03/2020 - 3/15 What we propose is, for the sector as a whole, as well as for each of the districts, to consolidate and synthesise the descriptive data for a good historical understanding of the UNESCO area and the history of Lyon : - a website with nearly 100 sections and 200 pages - a historical reference system - an architectural description - detailed files on remarkable monuments - help in preparing the visit - a description of Lyon's registration with UNESCO - a chapter on plans, visits, panoramas and 3D videos - 4 chapters per set of districts - an explanation of Lyon's traditions and particularities - a database of more than 1,000 files on the built environment - an extensive photo library - 360° panoramic photos - 3D evocations of missing elements - a directory of websites - a summary version in English - a summary version in Spanish - a summary version in Chinese Association Historical-Cities..org - 43 montée St-Laurent Lyon 5e +33 651153841 – 03/03/2020 - 4/15 The partners : - Ecole d'Architecture (Laboratoire Map Aria) - Editions Lyonnaises d'Art et d'Histoire - Cybercité - agence de référencement et de webmarketing - Ville de Lyon - Mairie 5e arrondissement - Archives Municipales - Bibliothèque Municipale - Agence d’Urbanisme - Musées Gadagne - Musée des Beaux-Arts - Musée de l’Imprimerie - Musée Gallo-Romain de Fourvière - Association des Sanctuaires Saint-Just Saint-Irénée - Association 'Lyon en 1700' - Institut Cervantès - Association des Chinois d'Outre-Mer à Lyon (ACOM) - izi.TRAVEL - Présence PME informatique - Google (agrément « Action Publique ») - Pitney Bowes (logiciel Mapinfo) Without forgetting in particular : - André PELLETIER, professeur émérite Université Lyon 2 - Claude DEVIGNE photographe - Nos mécènes et la Ville de Lyon pour le financement. Association Historical-Cities..org - 43 montée St-Laurent Lyon 5e +33 651153841 – 03/03/2020 - 5/15 Developments 2015-2016 : IZI.TRAVEL Progressive online publication at the end of 2014 of modules describing the places and six visits with commentary, initially in Google Earth and Google Maps formats in French, English and Spanish. These modules allow the Internet user to prepare his visit, to obtain information on the emblematic places, to detail and locate certain existing monuments and to view them remotely. In 2015, the partnership established between the European company izi.TRAVEL based in Amsterdam and Geneva, and the Lyon-based association Historical- Cities.org was exemplary: it was a mutual contribution of complementary "container" - "content" skills. izi.TRAVEL is a global platform for the creation of multimedia guides available on the web, via the eponymous application. The izi.TRAVEL application can be downloaded from the App Store, Google Play or Windows Phone Store, and then selected using the "LYON UNESCO" search. The routes can be used with 3G, 4G or WiFi links, and can also be downloaded in advance to smartphones and tablets. The tool integrates the geo-localisation of the visitor and the places. It uses the Google Maps map format. The collective production represents a total of two years of work to study the routes, one year of fine-tuning and several months for the translations and integration of audio data. The number of downloads is around 40,000/year. https://www.patrimoine-lyon.org/3d-plans-visites/visites Association Historical-Cities..org - 43 montée St-Laurent Lyon 5e +33 651153841 – 03/03/2020 - 6/15 Development 2015-2016 : Lyon for the Chinese Since the 16th century: Lyon has had links with China since the 16th century. The development of commercial and cultural relations in the 19th century, as well as the Lyon mission with Ulysse Pila in Southern China from 1895 to 1897, very quickly revealed the need to understand the Chinese language and culture. Tourist context for the Chinese : the historic sector of the city of Lyon is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This label is not only of major importance as a travel destination but is also an essential quality mark in international tourism. It makes it an essential stopover in the visits of Chinese tour operators between Paris and the Côte d'Azur. Association Historical-Cities..org - 43 montée St-Laurent Lyon 5e +33 651153841 – 03/03/2020 - 7/15 Nor should the historical importance to Chinese tourists of what remains of the only Chinese university in the world outside China be minimised: the Franco- Chinese Institute of Lyon and the Chinese collection of the Lyon Municipal Library. The proposed project : today, there is multiple demand, one or two places cannot meet the demand of Chinese tourists and visitors on their own. It is necessary to listen to the Chinese demand, then to identify and be able to decline the whole of the offer. The Historical-Cities.org association and the Association des Chinois d'Outre- Mer in Lyon (ACOM) first launched a working group to help better develop : - the promotion on the Internet of Lyon, a unique historical city for the Chinese, - opening up access to a wide public to the lessons of Lyon's past with China, - help in the preparation of his visit, - the identification of places of interest for the Chinese, - access to heritage sites in a structured way, in accordance with demand, - the use of computers, smartphones and tablets in the Chinese language. The work finally led to the creation of a promotional association, the Alliance Lyonnaise pour le Tourisme Chinois, today a member of the Tourism Commission of the New Franco-Chinese Institute of Lyon, and in relation with Only Lyon Tourisme & Congrès, the City of Lyon and the Métropole. https://www.patrimoine-lyon.org/index.php?lyon=Lyon-Chine Association Historical-Cities..org - 43 montée St-Laurent Lyon 5e +33 651153841 – 03/03/2020 - 8/15 Ongoing development: the Atlas of Paths and Remarkable Buildings As part of the ongoing development of the website http://www.patrimoine- lyon.org, the Lyon-based association Historical-Cities.org has planned to make available online a digital cartographic atlas of the roads and remarkable buildings in the UNESCO sector of Lyon, with initially 2,000 files and more than 3,500 photos, accessible on a computer, tablet or smartphone.

2015 2016 Fourvière Our Lady of Fourvière and Lyon Our Lady of Fourvière and Lyon Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him. He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?” They stood still, their faces downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” “What things?” he asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.” He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

© Handilol - Practical information for people with reduced mobility in Lyon, on 01/01/2016 - Accessible route in the Vieux- Lyon and Fourvière district WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE ROUTE IN THE VIEUX-LYON AND FOURVIERE DISTRICT Place Bellecour, statue of Louis XIV From the Tourist Office, go to the centre of the square to see the statue of a mounted Louis XIV, then go around the edge of the square, where the ground is flatter, to Rue Colonel Chambonnet. Cross Bonaparte Bridge, on the left or right-hand side. Cathédrale Saint-Jean After the bridge, continue along Avenue Adolphe Max and turn right onto Place Saint-Jean. It is best to avoid rolling over this square as it has uneven cobblestones. Go to the pavement on Rue Jean Carriès, where you can admire the cathedral’s facade from a bit further away. You can enter the cathedral through the door on the right, using the two ramps placed on the ground. However, you will need to ask for help to push open the two heavy doors just after the ramps. Rue Saint-Jean After visiting the cathedral, continue down Rue Saint-Jean. Be careful, as this road has many cobblestones, which are very bumpy and can cause a lot of jolting. It is the responsibility of individuals to decide if they want or are able to do this part of the tour, according to their physical condition. We recommend rolling slowly here, with at least two wheels placed on the smooth strip in the middle of the road. Turning left onto Rue de la Bombarde, you can admire the very pretty courtyard of the Musée Cinéma et Miniature (Miniatures and Film Set Museum), which is located just a little further down Rue Saint-Jean.
