AVANT-PROPOS Cette thèse de doctorat comprend une introduction (chapitre 1), quatre chapitres rédigés sous forme d'articles scientifiques et une discussion générale (chapitre 6). Les chapitres 2 et 3 sont publiés sous forme d'article scientifique. Le chapitre 4 est en préparation pour soumission. Le chapitre 5 a été soumis à une revue scientifique. L'introduction, le chapitre 3 et la conclusion générale sont rédigés en français. Les chapitres 2, 4 et 5 sont rédigés en anglais. Lors de ce travail, j'ai effectué toutes les expérimentations, les analyses statistiques des données, ainsi que la rédaction des quatre chapitres à titre de premier auteur. Mon directeur de recherche, Éric Lucas, a assuré les moyens fmanciers et logistiques pour mener à bien ce projet. Mes co-directeurs de recherche, Gérald Chouinard et Daniel Cormier, ont assuré les moyens logistiques pour la réalisation des expériences sur le terrain. Tous les trois ont participé au développement des idées et de l'approche expérimentale, ainsi qu'aux discussions concernant les analyses de données et les résultats de chacun des chapitres. Ils m'ont accompagné lors de chacune des différentes étapes de rédaction et ils sont co-auteurs de chacun des quatre articles. Cette recherche contribue grandement à 1'avancement des connaissances fondamentales et appliquées. 1. Cette étude permet de mieux comprendre le comportement trophique complexe de la punaise de la molène, notamment pour chacun des cinq stades larvaires du cycle vital. 2. Cette thèse est la première étude à tester l'influence des proies extraguildes et des prédateurs intraguildes sur la phytophagie d'un omnivore véritable. La phytophagie n'est pas uniquement évaluée par l'observation des dommages économiques sur fruit, mais également par l'observation du comportement nutritionnel de la punaise (piqûres de nutrition). v 3. Les résultats de cette thèse contribuent également à une meilleure compréhension du statut ravageur/bénéfique de la punaise de la molène en vergers de pommiers. 4. Enfm, l' ensemble des résultats de cette thèse a pemlis la mise sur pied d'une charte de gestion (encore préliminaire) de la plmaise de la molène en vergers de pommiers au Québec. Therefore, both sides of the forewings of Aleyrodes proletella were studied using histological methods, light and scanning electron microscopes. Studies confrm the occurrence of only three veins on forewings: the costal, radial and anal ones; only the anal vein lies under the anal fold. A campaniform and trichoid sensilla are present. The shape of wax secretions and wing margins is described. The comparative analysis of forewing structures contains new data for all Sternorrhyncha infraorders. The current results confrm the monophyly of the group, but place aphids closer to psyllids. The analysis of forewing base indicates that its general model is similar among Sternorrhyncha, but there occur some intergroup diferences.

SCUDDER1 ABSTRACT A total of 175 changes to the current checklist of Hemiptera: Heteroptera of Canada and Alaska are reported. Eighty deletions, eighty-eight nomenclature changes, and seven spelling corrections are detailed. In addition, comments are given on Anthocoris tomentosus Péricart, Orius diespeter Herring, O. tristicolor (White), and Tupiocoris agilis (Uhler). Key words: Changes, checklist, Heteroptera, Canada, Alaska INTRODUCTION Maw et al. (2000) published a checklist of the Hemiptera of Canada and Alaska, giving details of the occurrence of the species of Heteroptera. Since then, there have been a large number of taxonomic changes that have resulted in deletions and nomenclature modifications for many of the taxa. In addition, a few spelling errors have been noted. Details of the 175 changes are outlined here, and comments on four taxa are given. The order of taxa follows Maw et al. (2000), but species are listed in alphabetical order in each family. Redacted for Privacy Abstract approved: /- Dr. John D. Lattin The Miridae, or plant bugs, associated with noble fir, Abies procera Rehd., are discussed. Thirty six species of the Miridae were collected from noble fir. Twenty five of these species are considered only "visitors" to noble fir. The study does not deal with these species. Noble fir is a host of the eleven other species: Deraeocoris incertus Knight, Deraeocoris piceicola Knight, Dichrooscytus sp. A, Orthotylus sp. A, Paradacerla formicina (Parshley), Phytocoris neglectus Knight, Phytocoris sp. A, Pinalitus solivagus (Van Duzee), Plagiognathus sp. A and Psallus spp. A and B. Fifth instar larvae and the adults of these eleven species were examined and described. The plant bugs were collected from the noble fir foliage every seven to fourteen days from early May to mid-October,1979 from Marys Peak in the Oregon Coast Range and the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest in the Oregon Cascade Mountains. Distributional data were added from collecting trips in Oregon on Grass Mountain and around Mt. Hood and in Washington state at White Pass and Stevens Pass. The larvae and adults of the eleven noble fir mirid species were observed in a growth chamber. Feeding observations were recorded for eight species. The larvae and adults were examined for external signs of insect parasitism. Sticky traps placed on the boles of noble fir trees on Marys Peak collected very few mirids, suggestingthat the mirids remain on the foliage and branches.

Adult psyllids were collected by the beating-tray method from lower and upper parts of the apple tree canopy in the morning and in the afternoon. There was a trend of catching more emigrant adults of C. melanoneura in the morning and in the lower part of the canopy. For C. melanoneura remigrants, no differences were observed. The findings regarding the distribution of adults were reflected by the number of nymphs collected by wash-down sampling. The density of C. picta was too low for a statistical analysis. The vector monitoring and how it is commonly performed, is suitable for estimating densities of C. melanoneura. Nevertheless, above a certain temperature threshold, prediction of C. melanoneura density might be skewed. No evidence was found that other relatively abundant psyllid species in the orchard, viz.
