How to use torrent file System Many friends have asked me that how to download movies, software, music, games, e-books and other useful data from internet. They generally search it on Google, and many other sites, where either these are not fully available or they are paid. I advise them to download and share it from torrent peer (computer) to peer (computer) system. It’s really hard to guide them step by step because many times I have seen either they don’t exactly understand or they don’t know how to follow command. For this problem now I am going to guide them step by step, so they could be able to understand easily. Now here we go – 1 You have to download a torrent client. There are many torrent client available on internet. Like µTorrent, bit torrent, bit lord, tixati and many more. I have used, µTorrent, bit lord, tixati, azureus, bit torrent etc. I found µTorrent and bit lord are pretty good, they take less space in RAM and run quietly in background without any hassle. In this tutorial I am going to use bit lord 1.1 PICTURE 1 2 Now we will open a torrent search engine on web browser. There are many search engines available on internet, like torlock, isohunt, torrent café, torrentz etc. I have been using torrentz for 8 years. Type or click this link http://torrentz.eu/i to open in your web browser. PICTURE 2 3 As you can see in pic-2, there are lots of categories are already available. You can click on any one of them, or you can type the file name, what you are looking for. Suppose I type here “Windows 7” and it will highlight different hints regarding to windows 7. PICTURE 3 4 After the selection of right one you can press enter or click on search button. It will show results in next page. Suppose I select “Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit”. PICTURE 4 5 Now here are the results in picture 4. Here few points have to consider which are underlined in different colors. First arrow shows the torrent name. After torrent name the torrent upload time, how much time it has been to add torrent on search engine. Then the file size which is underlined by blue line. Now the next two figures will take little consideration. First figure suppose (1,625) underlined by pink line, which is the total of seeders. Seeders are those users who have full copy of windows 7 ultimate or who have done 100% downloading and now they are sharing (uploading) files with others. Now again next figure (343) which underlined by red line is the total of peers. Peers are those users who have partially completed downloading and still downloading. For a good health of any torrent, the number of seeders and peers must be considered. Now I am going to click on first torrent which is showing by arrow. It will take me on another page. PICTURE 5 6 Picture 5 is showing the upper half page. As you can see there are different search engines, which have torrent file. Generally I use torrenthound or mininova. You will click on any one of them but first we look another part of this page which is showing contents of torrent. PICTURE 6 7 After scrolling little down on the same page you can get the information about torrent contents and user comments. Torrent contents are actual data which you will download in your torrent client. Actually torrent is just like a token or ticket, by adding it in torrent client you can download large files. It is like a contact card with complete information by which you can connect those users who have the actual file because it is not possible to upload large file on site. User comments are useful for reliability of torrent. Now you again go up on the same page, and you will click on a server from the list.(Shown in pic-5). I click on torrenthound.com PICTURE 7 8 Now as you can see in pic-7, it is showing the current status of seeders and peers (leeches) in yellow- green circle. Scroll down the page and you will get here. PICTURE 8 9 Always click on download.torrent or download via torrent. It will ask for saving or to open the file in affiliated torrent client. If your browser does not ask to open the torrent file, save it on desktop or any folder you want and then open it in torrent client. I will directly open it in torrent client. When I open torrent file in torrent client, it will appear like this. PICTURE 9 10 In bit lord downloading will start automatically. You can watch the progress in percentage tab. Some client will ask you to start downloading or not. You have to see options in torrent client. 11 Now I am going to inform you little bit about torrent client. First we will set some tweaks in preferences. PICTURE 10 Click on preferences. PICTURE 11 Set the Global Max Upload Rate. You will set upload rate but how? See here – 12 On some internet connections, especially DSL and Cable modems, too much outgoing traffic can choke off all traffic and will affect your download speed. It is generally not necessary to set the incoming bandwidth throttle, but you should set the outgoing throttle to prevent too much outgoing traffic from slowing your downloads. You will get the best results with the outgoing bandwidth throttle set to about 70-80% of total capacity, which can vary greatly depending on how fast your internet service is. 13 How To Figure Out Your Outgoing Bandwidth Capacity If you already know what your outgoing bandwidth capacity is, you can skip this step. There are a few ways to figure out how fast your internet connection is in terms of outgoing bandwidth. One of the quickest and easiest ways is to use an online speed test. There are many online speed tests, but some will only tell you your incoming speed and will not test your outgoing speed. One that gives you both incoming and outgoing is on http://speedtest.net , and there is also another decent one on http://www.dslreports.com/stest . Once you've completed the test, you will see results that look something like this: PICTURE 12 Make sure you are looking at Upload speed. These speed tests give results in different units, such as Mb/s and Kb/s. Note the difference between upper-case "B" and lower-case "b" when you are working with units. Upper-case means bytes, lower-case means bits. There are 8 bits in a byte. You will need to convert your results into kilobytes per second (KB/s) according to the following table: Kb/s (kilobits per second) divide by 8 example: 628 Kb/s divided by 8 = 78.5 KB/s Mb/s (megabits per second) multiply by 125 example: 0.64 Mb/s x 125 = 80 KB/s MB/s (megabytes per second) multiply by 1,000 From the results in our examples, we know our internet connection has an 80 KB/s (kilobytes per second) outgoing capacity. It is usually best to set your outgoing throttle at about 70-80% of capacity. Since our capacity is 80 KB/s, we will set our throttle to 80 x 0.7, which equals 56 KB/s. 14 If your torrent client does not start to download any torrent, you can click on “choose random port” and you can also check your “firewall” setting whether it is allowing client to access internet or not. PICTURE 13 15 In “task” tab go to “Default Download Path” and set the download path where you want to save data. Data would be the real file which you were looking on the torrent search engine. You can check-uncheck other options according to pic-13. These are fair settings in preferences. Click on OK. 16 Now in last I am going to inform little bit more about torrent client. Some features which will give you a new experience of large file downloading from net. As you can see in pic – 14, the toolbar has different 3 buttons. Start pause and stop. Which are to start pause and stop downloading. PICTURE - 14 “Open Dir” in taskbar or “Browse Download Directory” from right click menu will open the folder or drive where the file will save finally. This directory you have already assigned in “default download path” in preferences. When you will right click on any torrent the right click menu will appear with few options. If you want to delete torrent with downloaded file select torrent ->right click menu->remove->remove task and all files. 17 In bottom you can see other infromations like summery, which will show you downloading status, files means contents of torrent, peers etc. I hope this step by step information will sort out your most of the problems.
