Southern Station Staff Show Appreciation for NHS

Rainbow posters have been displayed all over Barnham station - MORE IMAGES AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD BELOW May 04, 2020 11:46 BST Southern station staff show appreciation for NHS Barnham railway station is awash with rainbows as a thank you to NHS staff, carers and key workers. Southern colleagues wanted to show their appreciation for fellow key workers by taking advantage of empty timetable poster frames and filling them with messages. Platform Assistant Karl Wingate, 22, produced the rainbow poster designs and they were put up around the station with help from colleagues Gill English, who works in the ticket office, and Jethro Kandasamy, who works on the ticket gate. The 12 posters are displayed on platforms and at the entrance. Karl, who lives in Bognor Regis and has worked on the railway for three years, said: “We were keen to show our support to fellow key workers and everyone at the NHS – they are doing an amazing job on the frontline.” Area Station Manager Robert Walker said: "I am very proud of the Barnham team. In addition each village has conservation areas and an area of special character, with a mixture of statutory and locally listed historical buildings, and those with special character. We have developed the Plans through the work of Highways & Transport Partnerships (and Area Committees) and I am grateful to them for their hard work. Please allow plenty of time for your journey as roads can get congested at peak times. Courses start promptly at published times and late arrivals will not be admitted. Barnham Community Hall is a Modern facility set back from Yapton Road. The turn off is easy to miss due to a small location notice but we are opposite the Scholars Row Cul de Sac. If coming by car, the satnav will sometimes take you too far we are 100 metres on the right past the Murrell Arms pub if coming Barnham from the village centre. We are a 5 minute walk from the train station turn right as you exit and follow the foot path under the bridge and continue to walk past Murrel Arms on your right, turn left at the Barnham Hall sign. Car Parking: There is free on site car parking for 40+ cars and 3 disabled car parking bays adjacent to the main entrance. Upon arrival: Please report to the main reception and you will be directed to the waiting area. The course trainers will collect you from the waiting area. Training courses take place in a ground floor training room. Registration: It is important that you arrive in time for registration; late arrivals will be refused admittance onto the course. The course fee will not be reimbursed and you will be deemed not to have completed the course.

FRAMEWORK MASTERPLAN ENDORSEMENT REPORT REF NO: SD5 BARNHAM, EASTERGATE AND WESTERGATE (BEW) LOCATION: BEW Strategic Development Site PROPOSAL: Submission of BEW Masterplan Framework for Endorsement SITE AND SURROUNDINGS DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSAL: This Framework Masterplan has been prepared by JTP on behalf of the key landowners for the site. The site is allocated for development in the Arun District Council Local Plan (2018) for at least 3,000 homes, alongside infrastructure including a new primary school, community facilities, public open space, sports and retail provision. The Framework Masterplan sets the broad design principles to deliver an integrated community which is set within a high-quality landscape and integrates appropriately with the existing settlement. It is intended to guide future planning applications coming forward on this allocated site. The Framework Masterplan demonstrates how the requirements for the Site Allocation as set out in Policy H SP2c of the Local Plan can be delivered. These requirements include the building of at least 3,000 new homes, employment provision, new primary schools, plus a community hub which will include shops, a library and healthcare facilities. Sports provision in the form of a new 3G pitch and two pitches with associated facilities will be provided as minimum. SURROUNDING AREA: The BEW site is located to the south of the existing villages of Barnham, Eastergate and Westergate. The site is located approximately 6.5km north of Bognor Regis town centre and approximately 10km from Chichester City Centre. The South Downs National Park lies to the north, with the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) to the south west.

SUPPLEMENTARY PLANNING DOCUMENT BUILDINGS OR STRUCTURES OF CHARACTER Adopted September 2005 abcd 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 This Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) is prepared by Arun District Council (the Local Planning Authority) to provide a district-wide ‘local list’ and additional information regarding Buildings or Structures of Character within the District. The SPD is non-statutory, but will be a material consideration that the Council will take into account when considering planning applications. 1.2 This guidance supports and should be read in conjunction with POLICY GEN22 (Buildings or Structures of Character) of the Arun District Local Plan 2003 (as amended). The policy states “Planning permission will not be granted for development resulting in the loss of existing buildings and structures of interest and importance which are attractive in their own right or which contribute to the character and appearance of an area. Alterations, extensions or other development which would adversely affect the appearance or setting of such buildings or structures will not be permitted”. 2.0 REASONS FOR THE STUDY 2.0 Throughout the District there are buildings and structures which, while not Listed Buildings, are of good quality design and appearance; that are important features in their own right; and which may also contribute to the character and appearance of the area. They illustrate, and are reminders of, the historical development of an area and are worthy of recognition and retention wherever possible. 2.2 The Local Plan indicates that the Council will produce a Local List of such buildings and structures.
